Happy Friday, Deac families! It was another chilly one this morning (a mere 37 when I left my house early this a.m.) but the sun is out and we have tons of visitors on campus today for Campus Day for Accepted Students. We wish all our visiting and newly-enrolled families a warm welcome (despite the cold weather)!

NY Earthquake!

We have a lot of Wake Forest families in NY, NJ, CT, and Phili – and I know many of you must have felt the NY earthquake that happened this morning. Hoping that it caused minimal issues and that everyone you know and love is safe.

Campus Day for Accepted Students

Today is one of two Campus Day for Accepted Students and I met a lot of nice families as they got their coffee and Krispy Kreme donuts this morning. In case you were a visiting family and didn’t stop by the Family Engagement table, here are the key things to know:

  • May 1st will be the launch of our New Students website with info for the Class of 2028 and our P’28 families. The info out there now is last year’s info for the Class of 2027.
  • Starting May 1st, ’28 students will get a weekly email from the Orientation and Transition Programs office (likely on Mondays), and all P’28 parents and families will get an email from me (likely on Tuesdays) with info you need to know.
  • All the key processes (class registration, housing, etc.) takes place after May 1st, so you aren’t behind on any critical to-dos right now.
  • It’s important that we have an email address for all parents and families, as email is how we communicate with you. Be sure to visit our Incoming Families page and be sure to follow the instructions to verify your family record.

We look forward to getting to know all our P’28 families over the next four years! More info to come as of May 1st 🙂

Planning ahead for prescriptions or allergy serum

Deacon Health is starting to get the word out to students who take regular prescriptions or get allergy shots to prepare healthwise for the summer departure.

  • Students should check to make sure they have adequate supplies of any prescription medication to last through the summer, and if they need a refill, students should submit that request as soon as possible (especially for refills of psychiatric medications, which may require an in-person visit to refill).
  • For students who get allergy injections, they must pick up all their serum before they leave for the summer.

If either of those applies to your student, you may want to give them a gentle reminder that they will need to have a plan to take care of prescriptions and allergy shots (but as always, let them do the work!)

Black Hawk pics

For those whose students missed the Black Hawk helicopter landing yesterday, here are some pics of the event. Wishing everyone a great weekend!
