Wake Forest: US State Department Travel Caution
The following message was sent to students currently studying abroad, as well as the students’ named parent/family contacts for their program
Dear WFU students currently studying abroad,
As you may have already seen, on 10/19/23 the U.S. State Department issued a new “worldwide caution” to travelers around the globe. The issuance of this notification comes as a result of the heightened global tensions brought on by the unfolding Israel-Palestine crisis. The caution is general in nature and has not resulted in any changes to our Wake Forest programs or to Affiliate partner programs. That said, all travelers are reminded to follow normal travel safety recommendations:
- Exercise good situational awareness and be aware of your surroundings.
- Stay alert in locations frequented by tourists.
- Avoid all protests, demonstrations, and large-scale gatherings related to the ongoing conflict.
- Pay attention to all email messages from Wake Forest or your Affiliate program providers, including those from WorldAware, WFU’s international travel risk partner.
- Make you sure you have your program’s emergency numbers saved to your phones.
- Complete your program’s personal/independent travel forms process before traveling away from your host city/country.
Lastly, you are reminded that as Wake Forest travelers, you have access to the Worldcue mobile app. If you haven’t already, you can download the app from the App Store or Android Google Play. The app will provide you with country-specific health and safety information, as well as give you one-touch access to WFU’s dedicated emergency crisis line (1-312-894-3199).
Wake Forest will continue to monitor events and stay in close communication with Affiliate partners. Should there be any changes to our recommendations, then you will receive updates accordingly.
