A Message from Provost Michele Gillespie and Executive Vice President and CFO Jacqueline A. Travisano, Ed.D.

Dear students,

We are writing with an important announcement. Wake Forest University is in the process of implementing Workday Student in place of Ellucian Banner, our current Student Information System (SIS). Over the past 18 months, the Project WakeDay team has researched, configured and tested the new system, and we are confident that Workday is the best tool to give you more control over your academic journey and meet the needs of our community.

What Is Workday, and What Are Its Benefits?

Workday is a modern, mobile-friendly platform that offers a user-friendly interface and leverages secure technology to deliver the best services for all students. It will give you access to registration, academic planning and progress, and financial information, all in one system. It will also enable faculty and staff, and especially your academic advisors, to better advise you and respond more quickly to your needs and requests.

Workday is not replacing Canvas, our current Learning Management System. You will still continue to use Canvas to find assignments, course materials, and more. However, WIN is going away, and instead, you will utilize Workday for many tasks, as outlined below.

How Will Students Use Workday?

With its self-service functionality, Workday puts the power of access directly into your hands. Specifically, Workday will enable you to:

  • View, manage and update your personal information anywhere at any time, including contact, preferred name and gender identity;

  • Access advising information and communicate with your advisor;

  • Use self-service tools to plan, register, add or drop classes; no more lining up outside classrooms to get into labs; (Note: This varies if you are a graduate student, and your advisors will help you understand your options.)

  • Experience a new and improved registration experience, including clear waitlisting steps, prerequisite requirements, course access for students at different stages of their program experience, and no more short registration time windows;

  • View your grades and transcripts;

  • Track requirements and progress toward graduation;

  • View financial aid and student account information;

  • Access payments and refund options, and view refunds.

What Is the Timeline, and How Will Students Learn to Use Workday?

Students and advisors will gain access to the new system beginning in March. You will continue to meet with your advisor before registration, and you will use Workday tools to plan courses for Fall 2024.

Over the next several weeks, you will receive access to helpful how-to materials created specifically for students. You will also have access to support during the registration process, so if you have questions or feel stuck, there will be someone for you to contact. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit the training webpage on the Project WakeDay website to find dates for upcoming readiness events for students, and to watch your inbox for invitations from the Project WakeDay team.

We recognize that while this transition is a welcome and desired change, some may have questions about a new process. That is why we, along with the Project WakeDay team, are dedicated to facilitating a smooth and successful transition to Workday for every student.

Thank you for being part of this transformational journey. We are excited to take this step along with you toward a more innovative Wake Forest.

Sincerely,

Michele Gillespie
