Family Orientation has finished, and I am back to my office catching up on things I have missed. So today’s Daily Deac is largely a share-out of information from my campus colleagues. As I always say, read on for topics that serve you, and skip anything that doesn’t 🙂
And a program note: the Daily Deac will be dark tomorrow because I am out of the office. Just a reminder of our After Hours Help website, which offers guidance on where to turn if needed.
We’ll be back to you on Monday! Go Deacs!
For P’30 families – Orientation resources to be shared next week
Many thanks to all our P’30s who were able to be on campus this week for move in and/or Family Orientation. Sometime next week, I will share any of the slide shows or recordings from Orientation sessions, as well as a survey about your move-in and Orientation experience as family members, so stay tuned until then.
Wishing you safe travels home and peace of mind for your new Deacs as you depart campus. Remember that they’ve got this, and we’ve got them (and you)!
Alumni Hall – a look inside
Alumni Hall has a new look, a new purpose and a new role on campus. As one of the first major projects in the university’s Near-Term Space Plan, the former office building has been transformed into a 52,000-square-foot academic space designed to support collaborative learning, connection and the evolving needs of campus. See the video and/or read more in this article
For continuing students (i.e., sophomores-seniors): new waiver required for the Wellbeing Center
My colleagues at the Wellbeing Center asked me to share this with our returning students:
“1 Minute Now = No Waiting Later! The Wellbeing Center has a new waiver! Use these instructions to sign it now, and avoid waiting on your next visit. This new waiver will be required for entry beginning September 1st.”
This would be an easy thing to take care of before our continuing students move back to campus. And knowing how much they all use the Wellbeing Center, they will not want to wait to fill it out onsite.
Reminder: order your Welcome to Campus care package by tomorrow
Send a little love from home! The deadline to order a Welcome to Campus Care Package is August 21. Surprise your student with snacks, treats, and a personalized note to brighten their first weeks at Wake Forest.
Free Wellbeing Coaching
The Office of Wellbeing is enrolling for our Wellbeing Coaching program, which is free for undergraduate students, graduate and professional students, staff, and faculty! Clients will work one-on-one with a certified coach to identify their individual health and wellbeing goals, and then co-create a plan to achieve those goals and make them stick. Sessions are bi-weekly for the semester, or on a drop-in basis, and a variety of times are available. Goals can vary widely and can include anything from increasing sleep or managing stress, to developing a mindfulness practice or pursuing financial goals.

Mindful Wake course and practice communities
Intro to Mindfulness is a 4-week course where participants learn mindfulness and meditation skills. Through this curriculum, you may experience less stress, better sleep, increased focus and less self-judgement. Join us to learn the basics of mindfulness and several meditation practices in a warm and supportive environment. Classes are open to all in the WFU community, and are offered on zoom and in-person. Find a class and register here.

MindfulWake Practice Communities meet on Mondays on zoom and Wednesdays in-person at 12:15pm. Each time, the leader will offer a short reflection and then settle the group into practice together. No registration or prior experience is needed. Location details/zoom link here.
