Back from Break
In this Issue:
- OPCD webinars for specific class years
- Remaining mobile flu shot clinics: Oct. 21, 22, and 26 (free, no appointment needed)
- Upcoming academic items: Major/Minor Fair and spring course sections/registration
It’s a short week for your students, freshly back from Fall Break. Congratulations to our football team, who are now ranked #21 in the AP poll after their very strong showing vs. NC State this past weekend. I was there for the first half of the game (until the rain really got bad). Many thanks to our cheer and dance team, marching band, and fans for making the trek there – was great to see a lively Wake contingent in the stands and on the sidelines.
A note on format: we are working on some improvements to the Daily Deac that will roll out in early December, and I am testing some features. Today you will see hyperlinks in the In this Issue section. Not all email clients will allow you to click and jump down just to that section, but some will. So give it a try and see if it works for you.
Here’s what I have for you today. Dig in to what serves you 🙂
OPCD webinars for specific class years
An email went out yesterday to P’27 senior parents from the Office of Personal and Career Development about an upcoming webinar:
OPCD Webinar for the Class of 2027 Families
Monday, October 26
6:00-7:00 p.m. ET
Register
If you are a senior parent and did not get the message, please check your spam or junk folder and look for the subject line “Families of 2027 Graduates: Join us for a Webinar with the OPCD.” And if your Internet Service Provider did not deliver the message, you can still register here.
Note that there will be webinars for other classes too; the dates will be:
- Monday, 11/2 – Sophomore / Junior Families (6-7pm ET)
- Monday, 11/9 – 1st Year Families (6-7pm ET)
I will let you know once those email invitations have gone out. Thank you for your patience in the interim.
Remaining mobile flu shot clinics: Oct. 21, 22, and 26 (free, no appointment needed)
For those with Deacs who have not yet gotten a flu shot, Deacon Health has three more mobile flu clinics coming up on Oct. 21, 22, and 26. These are free, no appointment needed.
Please do encourage your Deacs to consider a flu shot. Students live in very dense environments and also do a lot of socializing with each other. A bad flu can keep them out of school for several days, which I know none of them want.
Just a friendly reminder that a healthy campus community depends on all of us 🙂
Upcoming academic items: Major/Minor Fair and spring course sections/registration
For students who have not yet declared a major (which is usually spring of sophomore year), they may want to attend our annual Major & Minor Fair, which will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 21, from 2 to 5 p.m. in Tribble Courtyard (rain site: Benson 401).
The Major & Minor Fair is an opportunity for students to meet with faculty from various departments, explore major and minor options, learn about unique offerings from different departments, and even discover ways to participate in undergraduate research.
Spring course sections will be published in Workday on Oct. 19. At that point, students can see which courses are being offered in the spring and can begin creating Saved Schedule. Students will need to be in touch with their academic advisor or major/minor advisor to schedule an advising appointment, as advisors are the ones who can lift their registration hold. And a note for families with students abroad, the Registrar’s website says “All students, including those currently abroad, must be advised by their advisor(s). All students must have their advising hold removed by their primary advisor to access registration.”
Registration for Spring 2027 begins Nov. 3-6. Students will also want to check Workday to ensure they do not have any holds that prevent registration, including financial and onboarding holds, and resolve those well in advance of their registration appointment.
That’s all she wrote for today. Have a great evening, Daily Deacdom!
