Almost the Long Weekend
In this Issue:
- Housing webinar recording for ’30s and P’30s
- Commencement photostory
- Misty Copeland speech recap
We are rapidly approaching a long weekend, and after some hot and sunny days (in the 90s), Winston-Salem is about to have a stretch of temps in the high 60s to high 70s and some much-needed rain. We need it! Bring it on!
Here’s what I have for you on this fine Thursday…
Housing webinar recording for ’30s and P’30s
Yesterday, Residence Life and Housing held a webinar with information for incoming ’30 students and their P’30 parents and families. You can watch the webinar here.
There is a dedicated page on the Residence Life and Housing website for Incoming Students, and this is a great resource for new students/families as they begin to get to know our housing process at Wake Forest.
Commencement photostory
As part of our continuing coverage of Commencement, we have a Commencement photostory that has just been released.
For those P’30s who are new to Wake Forest, you can subscribe to photostories and have them delivered directly to your inbox every time a new one is published. See the Subscribe to Stories button at the bottom of any photostory.
Misty Copeland speech recap
Misty Copeland’s Commencement speech is viewable on the recording of the ceremony (it begins around the 1:03:00 mark). My colleagues who work with news shared an article recapping her speech. Here is a taste:
“‘Sometimes we tell success stories as if people simply worked hard enough and found their way….But the truth is, somebody created access for you. Somebody made space for you. Pro Humanitate to me means using your gifts not only to advance yourself but to widen the space for others.’…
Copeland told graduates that in a culture obsessed with competition, optimization and peak personal performance, ‘ambition without humanity can become very isolating.’ She reminded the crowd that resilience and leadership do not come from a polished facade, but from the willingness to protect our core humanity, cultivate genuine relationships and embrace vulnerability.
‘Becoming yourself is not a branding exercise. It is a lifelong process of paying attention…to what kind of a human being you want to be when nobody is watching. The world does not need more people performing perfection. It needs more people willing to lead truthfully.’”
That’s what I have for you today, Daily Deacdom. Enjoy your evening!
