It is a cold and windy Monday, and I for one am grumpy: our temps were close to 70 degrees on Saturday, and today’s temps are a high of 39. Mother Nature is doing an awful lot of flip flopping at present. I’d much rather have a steady streak of temps in the low 60s. Pretty sure our students feel the same.

One of the fun things about the timing of Spring Break is it always seems like students leave campus for break, and all the flowers erupt while they are gone. If you are jonesing for a look at what I hope we’ll see in a few weeks, scroll to the end of this post.

Order a care package for your Deac

My friends in Residence Life and Housing wanted you to know that they are offering care packages:

“Brighten your student’s spring with a care package from home. Each package delivers smiles, support, and a reminder they’re never far from your thoughts. The deadline to order is February 28. Click here to learn more.”

Nothing made me happier than an unexpected gift from home. Whether that is a homemade care package, one you can order from Wake, or a well-timed surprise bit of cash/Venmo, I know our students appreciate these gestures.

Turn your screen time into green time

The Office of Sustainability has shared some information about their Celebration of Spring, which will take place starting in March. They encourage students to turn their screen time into green time – or, as students are fond of saying – touch grass:

“Each year, campus blooms with the coming spring, and the Office of Sustainability facilitates a campus wide celebration to honor Earth Day and the changing seasons at Wake Forest.

We hope you join us for our 2026 Celebration of Spring, with events and opportunities designed to celebrate, inspire, and gather in community.

Learn more about our signature events below, and find more ways to get involved throughout the semester on Instagram.

Additional opportunities, stories, and events will be added as we emerge into spring.”

Wake Wonders: Lam Museum of Anthropology

One of my colleagues put this story together and I thought it might be something the Daily Deac would enjoy:

Lam Museum of Anthropology is one of Winston-Salem’s best hidden gems. It’s filled to the brim with opportunities for learning and engagement. For Wake Forest University faculty, staff, and students, its on campus location doesn’t get any more convenient….Below are five surprising facts you might not know – but should – about Lam Museum.”

Read the full article – and – you can also watch a short video about the Lam Museum. Next time you are on campus, families, you ought to check it out.

Are you dreaming of Spring?

This cold weather has a lot of campus dreaming of Spring. And we’ll close out today with some pictures of past springs. I hope we will see these kinds of scenes very soon!
