A reminder about winter weather
It is bitter cold today, and what’s more, it’s windy. So I hope all our students are appropriately bundled up. Certainly this is not a day to be outside any longer than you need to be.
My schedule is packed today, so we’ll get right to today’s news…
Community Safety Advisory Update: Suspect Arrested in Fondling Incident
We got good news this morning about an arrest in the case of the fondling incident:
“On Jan. 9, the University issued a Campus Safety Advisory about a reported fondling incident near North Campus Apartments. Immediately following receipt of the report, University Police conducted an investigation and obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect. On the evening of Jan. 14, the Winston-Salem Police Department arrested the suspect and placed him into custody.”
This ran in our WFU Should Know student e-newsletter today, and I wanted to amplify it here in case it might be of interest to your Deacs (or you, for our student readers!):
“The Wake Forest Student Trustee Review Committee is seeking applicants and nominations for theStudent Trustee position on the 2026-27 Board of Trustees. The position is open to all rising full-time juniors and seniors (i.e., current sophomores and juniors) who are in good academic and disciplinary standing. Applications must be completed by5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9. Read more or submit an application.”
OCCE E-Newsletter with spring opportunities
I am on the distro list for the OCCE (Office of Civic and Community Engagement), and I got their newsletter yesterday I think and it is chock full of potential ways for our students to get engaged with a variety of programs – volunteering, campus traditions like Hit the Bricks, and more. Encourage your Deacs to get involved in anything that feels like a good fit.
A reminder about winter weather
Some of our first-year families may be wondering what happens if snow or wintry weather is in the forecast. Any changes to University operations would be shared through Wake Alert:
A notification will be posted on the Wake Safe app, the University’s free safety app. Learn how to turn on notifications here. The app is accessible to users outside the Wake Forest system, allowing family members to also download the app and receive alerts.
A banner will be displayed at the top of the University’s home page and other University web pages, providing details and a link to the Wake Alert site.
