Final exams began this morning. For me at least, the anticipation of finals was generally worse than the actual finals, so I am glad your Deacs can get them underway. As the old saying goes, the only way out is through.
I saw a fair number of students when I was working at Lovefeast last night and they seemed to me to be enjoying the beauty of the event – the music, the candlelight, the sense of community. Lovefeast always gave me a deep sense of calm and peace before finals. I hope it was so for your Deacs as well.

Snow flurries this morning
If you were looking at the Quad Cam this morning, you would have seen that we got the occasional snow flurry, The flakes were big and wet and pretty much disintegrated as soon as they hit the ground, as it was too warm for the snow to stick. My talented colleagues who work with social media shared this post showing the snow as it fell.

ZSR Library Decorating Committee reveal
The top-secret Library Decorating Committee has done a – shall we say – magical job of decorating the library for finals. The big reveal shows ZSR reimagined as Deacsmeade with a Harry Potter theme. You can see pictures here.
I particularly like the Proclamations tacked up on the walls, as well as the Quidditch goals and the house flags.

Deacs are going bowling!
I got an email from our Office of Alumni Engagement this morning about Wake going to the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte on Jan. 2, 2026. They are playing Mr. Daily Deac’s alma mater, Mississippi State. It will be interesting in my house :)
Here are some of the details:
“Wake Forest Football has accepted an invitation to play in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on January 2, 2026 in Charlotte! The Deacs will take on Mississippi State from the Southeastern Conference, and the game will be broadcast on ESPN at 8:00 p.m. (ET).
Fans can submit their Wake Forest bowl ticket request here, with the priority request window closing at 12:00 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday, December 9. Order confirmations and payment notifications will be sent on Wednesday, December 10, with seat assignments completed no later than the end of day on Thursday, December 11. Tickets will be delivered digitally by Friday, December 19….
Travel information from Winston-Salem, including fan hotel opportunities, is also being finalized and will be released soon. Please keep a close eye on your email and the Bowl Central website for more information.”
