The last block of final exams begins tonight at 7 p.m., and then finals week will be finished. I know we will have some happy students tomorrow!
We’ve now moved to the portion of May where I start peeking at the weather for Commencement weekend and send positive vibes and thoughts for ‘warm with gentle breezes’ weather. Feel free to add your supplications too!
Wake Forest expert on the penny featured on CBS Mornings
If you happened to be watching CBS Mornings as you drank your morning coffee (or tea), you might have seen Dr. Robert Whaples, Professor of Economics, talking about the potential to get rid of the penny. View the segment here. You can also read a Q&A with Dr. Whaples about the penny.
Summer Session students should be ordering their textbooks
My colleagues at the Bookstore shared a reminder in today’s WFU Should Know student enewsletter that I thought bears repeating here, as I know we will have Daily Deac-ers with students doing Summer Session:
“Enrolled in Summer Session? It’s time to order textbooks for your summer classes. Get your Booklist here.”
In case you were not aware, the Bookstore offers textbooks with many options to choose from: new or used, rentals (save up to 80%), digital, and a price match (check bookstore website for details).
In addition, often textbooks have various editions, and if your Deac tries to source their textbooks on their own, they may not find the right edition. But if your student buys from the Bookstore, they will get 100% of their course materials just by entering their Student ID.
P’29s – email about WakeWare laptops your students received
Our incoming students in the Class of 2029 got an email today about our laptop program: Check out the Wakeware lineup, ready for purchase!. ICYMI P’29 families, we archive all new student messages here.
And bear with me for a brief personal story: my ’27 at NC State also needed to have a laptop, and we ended up buying from their laptop program that’s just like WakeWare. And I was SO glad we went through the school program, because my ’27’s laptop went on the fritz once and it was easy as pie for them to drop it off at their shop and get a loaner until it was fixed. A huge relief for me not to have to mess with it.
That said, every family needs to make the choice that is right for them. And be aware that some students may be awarded a technology grant, which covers the full price of a standard WakeWare model. Your new Deac can check their Wake Forest financial aid portal and WFU email for details (if applicable).
Introducing Deacs.AI, a new IS podcast series exploring AI across campus
Information Systems is pleased to announce the launch of Deacs.AI, a new podcast forum dedicated to exploring the applications of Artificial Intelligence within the Wake Forest community. IS colleagues Michael Ferrari and Ryan Scholl will engage in discussions with faculty, staff, and students who are leveraging AI to advance their work. The podcast will provide insights into practical AI implementations and contribute to a deeper understanding of this transformative technology across the institution.
Deacs.AI is now available on the IS website, Spotify, and all major podcast platforms.
