I’m back at work following my surgery (all good, thanks for the kind wishes). There is a lot to cover today, so let’s get right to it.

Please encourage your Deacs to take The National College Health Assessment. This survey is crucial in helping us make decisions to improve the health of students. Students received an email invite to the survey on October 9th, and the survey will remain open October 9-30. In addition to having the chance to make a serious impact on campus, all undergraduate students who complete the survey will receive 400 Link Loot points. Learn more at go.wfu.edu/ncha.

University Police will be hosting Pizza With The Police tomorrow, October 12 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Hope your Deacs will stop by Zick’s for some free pizza, University Police swag, and a chance to chat with members of the police department.

A couple of fun, TV-related things to note. First up for The Office fans: Michael Schur – Mose from The Office and creator of Parks and Rec (among other shows) – will be on campus Monday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall, Scales Fine Arts Center. He is joining us for How To Be Perfect: An Evening with Michael Schur, which is a discussion about character, ethics, and television shows. Following the event, there will be a book signing for his book How to Be Perfect: The Correct Answer To Every Moral Question. Your Deacs won’t want to miss it!

For fans of Shark Tank: “Two Wake Forest University alumni will get their chance to swim with the sharks this week. Storage Scholars – the Winston-Salem pickup and delivery storage service for college students – will appear on ‘Shark Tank’ this Friday. The episode premiers at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.”

In honor of LGBTQ History Month, Dr. Joanna Schwartz will deliver a keynote presentation on “LGBTQ Marketing: Understanding the Community Better” on Monday, October 17th at 3:30 p.m. in Broyhill Auditorium, Farrell Hall. The presentation will be followed by a reception. Registration is encouraged so they can plan for food. Students can use this link to register for the presentation and reception

Today is National Coming Out Day, and our Deacs have plenty of allies on campus. Our LGBTQ+ Center offers D.E.A.C. Allies, which is a series of workshops to help campus community members (myself included!) learn to be better allies to the LGBTQ+ community. Students who see this sticker on office doors, windows, or laptops can know that person participated in D.E.A.C. Allies. DEAC Allies sticker

For our P’26s, your students got their Letters So Dear yesterday, and we also published a new Weekly Message for First Year Families, which you can read here.

For those who were here for Family Weekend, you saw the start of our fall leaves turning colors. They should get better over the next 2-3 weeks, and I will share some of Ken Bennett’s photos as I get them. It’s definitely fall, though – mornings are very crisp, in the 40s-50s. Definitely jacket weather if you have an early class,
