In this Issue: the weather and Babcock renovations

Summer Session I will end on July 1. For students who will be moving out and heading home, I have some unpleasant news: it is going to be exceedingly hot next week:

For our Deacs and Deac families in Europe right now, there is a similar awful heatwave. Try to stay as cool as you can. As much as I hate winter, cold temps look pretty good to me right now.

I was on campus earlier this morning for our Alumni Admissions Forum, talking to alumni families about how college parenting looks different from K-12 parenting. It was a great group, and I hope all your students get into their top choice school (if that is Wake, more’s the better!)

I took these pictures of the Babcock-Luter courtyard area as I walked past. There is an awful lot of red clay being moved around, and if your family is from a part of the country where the earth isn’t a rusty red like this, it can be a bit of a surprise.

This final image below is of Babcock hall as seen from the road behind Babcock and Luter (click to enlarge). The black stripe you see behind the backhoe is actually the top of what I think is a big retaining wall that is normally underground. Kind of cool to get a view of what is under the surface that we’ve never seen before.

That’s all I have for you, Daily Deacdom. Stay cool this weekend!
