We’re getting close to the end of the week. Summer is normally a slower time for news, but I do have a request for your help, and a couple of stories that might be of interest. Let’s get started!

Two question survey for you on your perception of Wake Forest

I need your help, Daily Deacdom. I am working on a project about how Daily Deac readers (primarily families, but some students, faculty, and staff too) think about Wake Forest.

Please help me out by answering this short 2-question survey.

It’s anonymous and should only take you a minute. I am hoping to get at least 555 responses, so you will be helping me out a lot if you participate. Thank you!

Two articles about Wake Forest and Charlotte

As I hope you know, Wake has been expanding its presence in Charlotte in important ways over the past year or two. Here are a couple of new articles that might interest you:

With new campus grand opening, Wake Forest underscores Charlotte commitment. Here is a snippet:

“Wake Forest University welcomed the community to its new, permanent home in The Pearl innovation district in Charlotte on May 11, the culmination of a multi-year quest to deepen its connections to one of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S….the move to The Pearl shows the university’s commitment to delivering world-class learning in a city ranked as one of the top five places to live in the nation, said Charles Iacovou, founding dean of the School of Professional Studies and vice provost for Wake Forest’s Charlotte programs.”

How Wake Forest is helping power Charlotte’s talent pipeline. And another snippet to give you a taste of the article:

“The pipeline from Wake Forest to the Charlotte workforce is strong and diverse. Charlotte is home to nearly 9,000 Wake Forest alumni, reflecting the University’s deep and growing presence in one of the nation’s fastest-growing business hubs. The past two undergraduate classes have gravitated to Charlotte at especially high levels.

Nearly half of the area’s Wake Forest alumni have earned graduate degrees from the Schools of Law, Business or Professional Studies. The next major contributor will be medical.

In 2025, the University’s second Medical School campus opened in the Pearl, joining the existing school in Winston-Salem, which dates to the early 20th century. The program is strongly affiliated with Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, its principal residency partner.

A 2021 study by Tripp Umbach, a firm that specializes in modeling for the health sector, estimated the Charlotte medical campus will create approximately 43,000 jobs in the region over 20 years and will generate an additional $5.2 billion in cumulative economic impact in that span.”

Great news for Wake and for Charlotte. Win-win!

Bonus mention: former WF soccer player makes US World Cup team

This ran in the Winston-Salem Journal a couple of days ago. It’s behind a paywall, so you have to be a subscriber to read the full story, but here is the gist:

“Mark McKenzie, a former defender for Coach Bobby Muuss, has been added to the 26-man roster. McKenzie, who has plenty of international experience, is a 27-year-old who was born in New York City. He’ll be a defender for the U.S. team that begins play next month on home soil.”

One more reason to root for Team USA! Go Deacs!
