Classes end exactly 2 weeks from now, on Wednesday, April 29th. From both my own college junior and the other Wake students I have interacted with of late, this is a high stress period. Students say they are feeling stressed about all the things they must get done before classes end: final papers, projects, and/or tests. And then they have to swing right into studying for finals, packing to move home for the summer, and/or looking for jobs or internships. It’s a lot.
This would be a great time to Venmo/Zelle your Deacs a little fun money to treat themselves to something, or send them a gift card to someplace local they like (restaurant, coffee shop, cookie place, etc.). A little TLC from home in the high stress times can make a big difference.
And also, remind your Deacs that they can do hard things, and that things have a way of working themselves out in the end. Do they best they can to finish classes and prep for finals, then let it rest. The goal is them giving their best effort, not perfection. Sometimes they need to hear that from the people they love.
Enough of my maternal sappiness 🙂 – on to today’s news.
Face to Face lineup for 2026-27
Sadly I was not able to go to Face to Face last night to see Magic Johnson, but as promised, they announced next season’s speakers (save for one who is still a surprise), and honestly, this is a pretty spectacular lineup:
If you are looking for a reason to come visit your student more than just at Family Weekend, you could double your pleasure and pair it with the Face to Face speakers (either with season tickets or individual event tickets while available). See more at the Face to Face website.
Office of Personal and Career Development (OPCD) webinar recording for P’27s and P’28s (sophomores and juniors)
Earlier this month on April 8, the Office of Personal and Career Development (OPCD) webinar for families of current sophomores and juniors. If you were not able to make that event live, the recording is now posted on the OPCD Parents page.
This page, by the way, has lots of great content, so be sure to use it as a resource if needed.
P’26s and ’26s: important action items for seniors from the OPCD
The OPCD shared the following for families of seniors (P’26s) – and of course for any ’26s receiving the Daily Deac too 🙂
“Help Your Grad Secure Their Future: as your student prepares for graduation, please help them keep their Wake Forest resources for life by encouraging them to complete these three essential tasks:
- Step 1: Set Up Alumni Email: Student accounts expire in 60 days. Have them visit the WFU Network to create their permanent alumni email address today. They can find instructions for creating an account here.
- Step 2: Update Handshake: They should link their new alumni email to Handshake to maintain lifetime access to career coaching and job recruiters. They need to complete this form
- Step 3: Complete the First Destination Survey: If they’ve landed a job or grad school spot, this survey is vital. It boosts WFU’s national rankings, which directly increases the value of your student’s degree.
Still Searching? The Alumni Personal & Career Development Center becomes their professional home for 1:1 coaching and job leads after graduation.”
Airport shuttles for end-of-semester travel
I just saw this announcement and wanted to be sure Daily Deac readers have this information if it is helpful:
“If your student is heading home at the end of the semester, Transportation and Parking Services offers convenient airport shuttle services during designated break times.
Shuttles run to and from Greensboro and Charlotte airports, making travel easier and stress-free. Registration dates are listed below, so be sure to book in advance and review our schedule for departure times. For more details and to reserve your student’s spot, visit our airport shuttle services website.
End of Semester Airport Shuttle Registration will open at 9:00 a.m. on April 22 and close at noon on May 5.”
Note that if a reservation is needed outside our posted schedule, or to the Raleigh-Durham airport, students can make a reservation through Black Tie Transportation (or any other service of their choice, such as Uber, etc.).
CLASS Cafe is next Wednesday
Campus is cordially invited to CLASS Cafe next Wednesday:
“Please join us and celebrate the Spring semester with CLASS (Center for Learning, Access, and Student Success) by partaking in seasonal treats and fun conversation on Wednesday, April 22nd from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Hearn Plaza.
Delta Alpha Pi, an academic honor society founded to recognize high-achieving students with disabilities, will present the 2026 Accessibility Champion Award to honor a faculty or staff member who demonstrates leadership in advancing the rights of individuals with disabilities. Remarks will begin at 3:30pm.
This is a drop-by event and is open to all faculty, staff, and students! It is a great time to connect and decompress before finals prep begins!”
I can’t recommend CLASS Cafe highly enough. In addition to grabbing some treats, students can connect with members of that office and learn about some of the ways CLASS can help support their academic goals. It’s a win-win!
That’s all I’ve got for you today, Daily Deacdom! Have a great night.
