It’s a brand new week, a sunny day, and everything’s coming up Wake Forest! We have a couple great news items, as well as some reminders of things happening on campus. Let’s get right to it!

Demon Divas win ICCA South Quarterfinals

I got multiple texts/emails over the weekend from proud Deac family members who wanted me to share the great news that our very own Demon Divas a cappella group kicked butt and took names this weekend, winning the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) quarterfinals. Some pictures from a proud mom are below.

The ICCA website tells me that “The competition sees groups from the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom compete across 9 regions, culminating in the ICCA Finals in New York City.”

If I am reading the website right, our Demon Divas will be competing in a semi-final roung in March. Congratulations to our ICCA SOUTH QF CHAMPIONS ‘24:

Hailey Auster, Sadie Austin, Darby Beal, Ilana Birch, Alex Eliasek, Elizabeth Kane, Mary Catherine Kolar, Marissa Mims, Molly Pluto, Sophie Spangler, Amy Taliaferro, Ali Tyler, Kate Wanzenberg, Cami Wilson. We also recognize Outstanding Soloist Award winner: Sophie Spangler, and Outstanding Choreography Award winners: Sadie Austin, Cami Wilson, Kate Wanzenberg, Mary Catherine Kolar.

We wish you all the best in the next round (family members of Demon Divas, keep me posted on the results!)

Reminder of 1/30 parent/family Zoom on Summer Management Program

My friends in the Business School wanted me to remind you of the Zoom for families tomorrow (Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 4:00 p.m. (EST)) about The Summer Management Program (SMP). SMP is a business boot camp for non-business, undergraduate students, and students earn 8.0 credit hours (pass/fail) by attending this summer program. Join Professor Ben King on via Zoom to learn more about this outstanding program.

CLASS Workshop 1/31 on time management and the Comprehensive Syllabus

Here is an important remider about the upcoming CLASS workshop on a time management; it will be held Wed, Jan 31st at 6 p.m. in Benson 410. CLASS staff will walk students through how to create the famous comprehensive syllabus and other strategies for managing their time.

This is part of our OWLS (Outreach Workshop Learning Series) programming. And a big bonus: every time a student attends an OWLS workshop this semester, they will be entered to win 48 hours of a private reserved premium study space during spring 2024 finals week, courtesy of the CLASS team.  Let me assure you that private study space during finals is priceless!

Wake Forest featured in the Sports Business Journal

Some colleagues shared this terrific article from the Sports Business Journal about Wake Forest and our position in the evolving intercollegiate athletics landscape. Here’s a teaser:

“The ACC’s Demon Deacons are the nation’s smallest Power Five program, but AD John Currie, coaches, athletes and the school’s big-time supporters believe success has no size limitations — even in an NIL world.”

It’s a fascinating read. I encourage you to dig in when you have a chance.

P’27s: Letters So Dear for your students

Finally today, as we do every Monday, we are sharing the Letters So Dear that our ’27s received this morning in their inboxes.
