Today I want to share several exciting opportunities and updates. Let’s get right to them!

“What Else is College For?”: Program for Leadership and Character Discussion Group sign up

One of the challenges of a new semester is getting into a new groove and finding your people amidst a new academic (and possibly extracurricular) schedule. And one of the best ways to make meaningful connections is through a shared experience with others. I am happy to report that The Program for Leadership and Character has an opportunity for purposeful engagement coming up:

“During the first half of the spring semester, The Program for Leadership and Character will hold a discussion group that invites students into personal reflection on issues of leadership, character, and the good life.

This semester, we’re leading a discussion group called “What Else is College For?” In it, we’ll think about the nature of the good life and how we can live such lives in college and beyond. All are welcome as we consider topics such as friendship, failure, and gratitude.

Discussion groups will start on Monday, February 5 and will meet four times over the following weeks, once per week for one hour each time.”

Interested students will need to sign up for a discussion group by January 31. This might be a gamechanger for students interested in this topic and looking to meet likeminded people. Encourage your Deac to consider it!

Wellbeing Coaching (free for students!)

This came to my inbox from the Office of Wellbeing:

“The Office of Wellbeing is enrolling for our Wellbeing Coaching program, which is free for students!  Clients will work one-on-one with a certified coach to identify their individual health and wellbeing goals, and then co-create a plan to achieve those goals and make them stick. Sessions are bi-weekly for the semester, or on a drop-in basis, and a variety of times are available.  Goals can vary widely and can include anything from increasing sleep or managing stress, to developing a mindfulness practice or pursuing financial goals. Students can find out more and register at go.wfu.edu/wellbeingcoaching.”

I had used the Wellbeing Coaching program pre-pandemic and enjoyed it very much. It was really helpful to have an objective thinking partner who could help me work towards my goals. Hope your Deacs will take advantage of this great resource.

Summer Management Program Zoom for parents/families – Jan. 30

There is always a lot of interest in our business education opportunities in non-degree/non-major programs. This one, and the next item, are exceptional!

“Wake Forest families are invited to attend an information session relating to one of our most distinguished programs, The Summer Management Program (SMP). SMP is a business boot camp for non-business, undergraduate students, and students earn 8.0 credit hours (pass/fail) by attending this summer program. Join Professor Ben King on Tuesday, January 30 at 4:00 p.m. (EST) via Zoom to learn more about this outstanding program.

The Zoom link is available here.

Please note that this meeting is for parents and families. We shall hold a separate information session for students. Contact Francie Powers at powersfv@wfu.edu with questions.”

SportsBIZ summer program

“SportsBIZ is an exciting and unique sports-business program that not only introduces students to the breadth of career opportunities in the multibillion-dollar sports industry and provides career insights from many sports industry leaders, but also provides students the opportunity to gain invaluable business knowledge through 8 business essential modules as well as a Case Competition. SportsBIZ is offered online via Zoom in Summer II only and this summer we will celebrate our 5th year!”

SportsBIZ is now accepting applications. Interested students can also contact Amy Viola to schedule a consultation or email her at violaaj@wfu.edu.

Yesterday, resident students received this message from the Office of Residence Life and Housing about the 2024-25 Housing Application being opened.

New Commercial

We were expecting our new commercial to air last night during the Wake-Carolina game (but it did not). Our social media cut will have to tide you over until the TV commercial airs during a future game!
