We’re at the end of a lovely week, and are looking forward to a warm and sunny day tomorrow for our football game against Fl. State. But lurking just around the corner is a 30 degree drop in temperature, so your Deacs are warned: check your weather app before you walk out of your room in the morning, just to make sure you’re ready for what Mother Nature has in store.

International Education Week and Night Market

My colleagues in the Center for Global Programs and Studies (GPS) has announced on their website that “We will celebrate International Education Week at Wake Forest November 1-8, 2023. IEW is a nationwide effort to recognize the benefits of cultural and academic exchange around the world. Our signature event, the Night Market, will be Wednesday, November 8 from 5-7 p.m.”

The Night Market is a really cool concept and is a lot of fun. It is an eclectic offering of food, take-and-make crafts, music, and items for sale to create an atmosphere reminiscent of markets around the world. Hope your Deacs will take advantage of this opportunity.

Recording of spring-only housing webinar

Many thanks to those who attended the spring-only housing webinar yesterday. If you could not attend, but wanted to, you can view the recording here.

Reminder about academic advising and checking registration holds

All undergraduate students, including those currently abroad, must meet with their lower division adviser (i.e., the adviser they have before they declare their major) or their major adviser (and minor adviser, if applicable) between now and November 3rd for advising and to receive their registration PIN.

Advisers are not allowed to release PINs without a meeting with the student, so students need to be sure to set up that meeting with their adviser(s) and then keep their PIN in a safe place.

In addition, students must make sure they don’t have any holds on their account that would prevent registration, and clear those holds before their time ticket to register. Students need to go to Registration Portal -> Prepare for Registration -> review any holds. If there are any holds, your student needs to clear them with the office who placed the hold.

I can’t stress the importance of checking for holds in advance. I am a belt-and-suspenders kinda girl when it comes to being prepared 🙂 so I tell students to check for holds now, today, and then check the morning before they register to make sure nothing new has been added. Holds have to be cleared during the business day while offices are open – not at 6 or 7 p.m. when a student’s registration time ticket might be. So encourage your Deac to be vigilant on checking holds and clearing them.
