Academic Resources Awareness Week (Oct. 23-27)

My colleagues in CLASS (Center for Learning, Access, and Student Success) have shared the lineup for next week’s terrific schedule of events for Academic Resources Awareness Week (ARAW):

“Next week (Oct. 23-27) is ARAW – Academic Resources Awareness Week – and we have a full line of events. The purpose of the week is to help students learn about all the on-campus academic resources available to them and to normalize their use.

The theme is “We are on your team,” because students don’t have to walk their academic path alone – there are so many people here on campus ready to be on their team and help them!  Each day of next week will focus on a different resource.

  • Monday is ZSR Library Day – lots of cool swag at an all-day tabling event
  • Tuesday is Information Systems Day – Technology Do’s and Donuts in Tribble Courtyard from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Wednesday is Academic Coaching Day – meet coaches at CLASS Café: drop by anytime from 3:30- 5 p.m.; CLASS Café is a time for faculty, staff, and students to share seasonal treats and fun conversation. Wednesday evening is our OWLS (Outreach Workshop Learning Series) at 6 p.m. about Study Strategies for Building a Successful Second Half of the Semester
  • Thursday is Tutoring Day – meet tutors from all over campus and learn about all the different help centers, while jumping on inflatables and eating cotton candy! Thanks to a grant from the Program for Leadership and Character, students we will be hosting the Rebound from Setbacks: Academic Resources and Resilience Carnival on Manchester Plaza from 1-4 p.m.
  • Friday is Office of Academic Advising Day – tabling event all day to answer registration questions (registration is coming up soon!)

In addition, every time a student goes to an ARAW event, they will be entered to win the grand prize of the week… The CLASS Ultimate Study Experience: a private reserved special study room for all day Saturday, Dec. 9 and Sunday, Dec. 10 – complete with yummy snacks and CLASS swag!  Please encourage your students to go to the events and enter their name to win this great ARAW grand prize!”

Having a private study room for finals would be a “dub” (for W, as in “win,” as my ’27 would say). So that is an extra reason for your Deacs to hit up all the ARAW events and boost their chances to win.

Holding space for our community

I saw this message from our Division of Campus Life on their Facebook page:

“In our current cultural context, we are experiencing multiple historical events that challenge our ability to engage one another in the spirit of Pro Humanitate.

This Thursday at 10 a.m. & 5:30 p.m., members of Campus Life staff are offering a space for students to come together to reflect and share as we explore ways to expand our level of care and community by leaning into our shared humanity.
