Today is Veterans Day, which honors all of those who have served our country. I know there are military families within the Daily Deacdom, and certainly there are legions of Wake ROTC alumni who are serving/have served our country admirably. Thank you to all our veterans and service members, past and present. We are grateful for all you and your families sacrifice for the good of our nation and the world. The combined Wake Forest and Winston Salem State University ROTC battalion holds their Veterans Day ceremony in the Sutton Center, on the campus of Wake Forest University, Wednesday, November 11, 2020. Cadets Hagler and Lynn of Wake Forest University and Cadets Smith and Timmons of Winston Salem State University lay the wreathes.

Yesterday I got an email about a new, online Master’s in Clinical Research Management degree:

This program is designed to address the growing need for well-equipped clinical research professionals that can holistically lead the research process. As the world responds to the current pandemic, we have become even more aware of the need for experienced professionals to produce innovative, new health care solutions quickly and effectively. The research discovery process to produce and deliver needed devices and therapeutics requires the skilled navigation of the trials, regulatory, and delivery processes.

This could be an incredible option for our current seniors, and something for the rest of our student body to consider as they move closer to their own graduations.

Yesterday, a message was sent to students who have not yet submitted proof of flu shot vaccination documentation. This was meant to be a gentle reminder that if they are planning to come to campus in 2021, they must submit proof of a flu shot by December 15th. Details here. Students can get the flu shot after they leave campus and go home, of course.

For our P’24s, the OPCD session for you is coming up on November 17th. Details and sign up here. And if you missed the previous events, you can see the past recordings and some Q&A here.

In COVID news, our governor just issued a new executive order reducing Phase 3 gathering sizes from 25 people indoors back to 10 people. Campus cases seem to be creeping up again; see the dashboard. For any resident students who are told they need to quarantine or isolate moving forward, they will have the option of staying at the quarantine hotel even after Wake closes on 11/24, or they may do their quarantine or isolation at home, provided they do not take public transportation (planes, buses, trains, Ubers, etc.). Students will receive guidance on this if they want to travel home for quarantine or isolation.

We are so close to the finish line, Deacs. Let’s stay safe and keep adhering to public health guidelines so everyone can leave campus on a high note.
