I am traveling for New Student Receptions this week (thank you Larchmont, and hello Philly!) so this is a pre-posted Daily Deac.

Today I want to share two opportunities. The first is for our incoming ’23s: and that is that there is still room in the Deacon Camp pre-Orientation program, and there are other pre-Ori programs as well. This email went out to students this afternoon about all of this.

The second opportunity that your Deacs (of all years) might be interested in is the Global Laureates Academy. My colleagues in the Office of Global Programs and Studies (GPS) sent this information to me:

Congratulations to the first cohort of Global Laureates Academy (GLA) who completed the professional development program in spring 2019. The Global Laureates Academy cohort consists of students, faculty, and staff who attend workshops and seminars exploring topics and challenges associated with the 5 global learning threads: Intercultural Inquiry, Self Awareness, Community Interaction, Intercultural Communication, and Global Responsibility.

The 2018-2019 cohort collaborated in small groups to complete a capstone project that focused on enhancing our global campus community. Congratulations to: Joy Gambill, John Marion, Tammy Burke, Jorge Penaranda, Alessandra Von Burg, Rebecca Thomas, Yasuko Rawlings, Amy Wallis, and Kristi Verbeke. Global Laureates Academy will be enrolling the next cohort in fall 2019. If your student is interested in joining, they can contact Kim Snipes (snipeskb@wfu.edu).

The Global Laureates Academy website has a lot more details and explanation. This could be a terrific way for globally-minded students to form closer relationships with faculty and staff while digging deeply into topics of interest to them.
