Information About Winter Room Change Process

The following information was sent to students from the Office of Residence Life and Housing on October 7.

Winter Room Change

Requests for Winter Room Change may be submitted beginning at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2019, at Requests are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, November 11, 2019.

Any student who currently has a vacancy in their room or has a roommate requesting a move should expect to be assigned a new roommate for the Fall 2019 semester. As a reminder, students with a vacancy in their room are not permitted to utilize multiple pieces/sets of furniture, closets, etc. A set should remain clear for each vacancy. For more information, refer to the Guide to Community Living at

As you consider participating in Winter Room Change, please remember the following important points:

You will receive communication from the Office of Residence Life and Housing regarding your request Monday, December 2. 

Requests for a room change during the winter room change period will be processed in the order in which they are received based on the availability of requested spaces.

If you have a roommate, please be courteous and notify them of your intention to change rooms.

You may NOT decline a room change if approved.

You may NOT move until you receive written approval and assignment details are received from the Office of Residence Life and Housing. 

Please note that the availability of single rooms is very limited.

If you are interested in moving into a vacancy in another student’s room, you and the other student should each submit a room change request.

If you are interested in swapping rooms, both students involved in the swap need to submit room change requests.

If you are in a negative living situation, it is strongly encouraged that you (a) talk with your community staff and (b) request move to any available room.

 Students approved to do so may begin moving after 5 p.m. on Friday, December 6. Students must move out of their fall assignment prior to Winter Break, regardless of the availability of their spring assignment.

You may NOT deny room change options that are provided to you by the Office of Residence Life and Housing during this process.

Failure to properly check-out of your current assignment, including returning key(s), may result in the cancellation of your room change and/or charges to your student account.

Off-Campus Petitions

Students wishing to live off-campus for Spring 2020, should submit a petition to be released by visiting and clicking on the Off Campus Petition option. Petitions for Spring 2020 are being reviewed on a rolling basis, so please be patient as you wait for a decision.

If Your Student Has a Problem

One of the best ways parents/families can help their students is to let them solve their own problems. Use the Stop, Drop, and Roll method when your student contacts you with a problem.  The flyer also lists contact information for serious concerns where family intervention might be appropriate.
