Drop/Add and POI Information Sent to Students

The Office of Academic Advising has sent the following information to students about the Drop/Add process and the POI (Permission of Instructor) process for course registration.  If your student has questions about these items, please encourage your student to consult with his/her acadmic adviser or to go to the Office of Academic Advising for assistance.

Classes begin at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, August 29th.  At that time, “POI registration” also begins. Students may drop or add classes as follows:

  • Classes may be dropped on WIN without permission as long as students remain at 12 hours or more
  • All adds require permission of instructor (“POI”)
  • Instructors may grant permission at their discretion by issuing a POI number
  • POI numbers are used on WIN to add courses (see below for instructions on “How to Use POI number” and “How to Swap One Class for Another”)
  • Students may add up to 17 hours without special permission; exceeding 17 hours requires additional permission from the Office of Academic Advising

Last day to Add classes is Wednesday, September 12

Beginning Thursday, September 13, students may no longer add classes

  • Dropping courses on WIN is NOT possible at this time
  • All drops require instructor’s AND advisor’s signature on a paper drop slip which must be brought to the University Registrar’s Office, Room 110 Reynolda Hall after all signatures have been obtained

Last day to Drop is Wednesday, October 3

If Your Student Has a Problem

One of the best ways parents/families can help their students is to let them solve their own problems. Use the Stop, Drop, and Roll method when your student contacts you with a problem.  The flyer also lists contact information for serious concerns where family intervention might be appropriate.
