It’s T-minus one day to Inauguration and campus is hopping. In addition to prepping for the inaugural activities, the Mag Quad (aka Manchester Plaza) is closed as we erect a giant tent for Homecoming, which will be the weekend of November 6-8.

Our students might especially like to attend Party So Dear next Friday evening on the Mag Quad and the Festival on the Quad (Hearn Plaza) on Saturday morning. And I hope it will be fun for them to see all the alumni who are back to revisit their student days with their best friends from Wake. It is sort of a fun view to what the future might look like.

Now on to today’s news!

Simplifying Course Materials: The Deacon Book Bundle

I have been part of a project team working on this for a few months, and happy to share this news:

“Helping your student prepare for the semester just got easier! Through the new Deacon Book Bundle program, undergraduate students can access all required course materials at a predictable, affordable rate, ensuring they have everything they need starting on day one.

Your student can opt in through Workday when registering for spring 2027 courses to take advantage of this convenient, cost-saving option. Registration for spring course sections begins Nov. 3 to 6.

Learn more about the Deacon Book Bundle program.”

I am so excited for this program because my ’27 at another school has had a similar book bundle program and it has made it SOOOO much easier for us to budget for books and know it is all taken care of in one easy opt-in (vs. my ’27 have to order each book individually). I hope Wake students and families love this as much as our family has!

ESPN and ACC Network live on campus

I got this in my inbox this morning. Some very exciting stuff is coming up:

“ESPN and ACC Network are coming to Manchester Plaza, between Bostwick and Johnson Residence Halls, for three live shows, and we need YOU to bring the energy!

Friday, Oct. 30
2 p.m. – 3 p.m. | Bussin’ and Pate Show
Featuring Coach Jake Dickert at 2:30 p.m.

5 p.m. – 6 p.m. | ACC PM
Featuring Gio Lopez at 5:10 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 31
10 a.m. – 12 p.m. | ACC Huddle
Featuring Coach Jake Dickert and Wake Forest alumnus and San Francisco 49ers safety Malik Mustapha.

Wear your costumes and Wake gear, bring your friends and spirited signs! Get creative, but keep them fun and respectful. No sticks or rods, blocked views, or inappropriate language. Let’s show out for DEACTOWN! Then stick around for Deactown Halloween. Kickoff vs. Virginia is 3:45 p.m. Let’s make it a Halloween gameday to remember!”

These events will be a blast for our students. Hope they show up in droves and show the world our incredible school spirit. Go Deacs!

Goin’ bowlin’ – but where?

Because our gridiron Deacs have been killing it on the field, we already know we are going to a bowl game. We just don’t know where yet. Our Vice President and Director of Athletics, John Currie, shared this in a recent email:

“Now that we’re bowl eligible, see where the Deacs could play this postseason, from the ACC Championship Game in Charlotte to bowl and College Football Playoff sites. Then join our postseason interest list for the latest updates and exclusive presale access to tickets. Specific information will be shared over the next few weeks as our postseason options start to become more clear.”

So if you want to make Wake part of your winter break plans and go to a bowl game, keep your eye out on the Postseason Central website. Bowl games are big fun – so I hope you consider it.

Photostory: The Secrest Artists Series – Actors from the London Stage

There is a new photostory out about a wide-ranging series of performances and educational events with Actors from the London Stage:

“When Actors From The London Stage visited Wake Forest University to perform Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, their presence extended far beyond the stage. While their sold-out performance at Brendle Recital Hall was a highlight, behind the scenes, the five guest actors spent a week leading hands-on workshops and engaging directly with students across campus.”

Photostory: Project Pumpkin

I shared some pictures from Project Pumpkin yesterday, but this photostory has a lot more details and tells the story of the day in a much more complete way. Check it out – maybe you will see your Deac (or yourself, students!)

Have a great night, Daily Deacom!
