It’s a grey day with intermittent rain and drizzle, which feels very fitting during Finals Week. I am a glass-half-full kinda girl, so I guess the bright side to look on is that the weather will not tempt your students to go outside for fun and sun, but rather to stay indoors and study.

Speaking of weather, it is too soon to begin fretting about the Commencement weekend forecast. Having been to the rodeo for 25+ years, I know that the forecast can and will change several times. So P’26s, look at it now as a very rough draft and know that in the 3-5 days before Commencement weekend, you’ll get a better view of the likely weather.

Now on to today’s news…

Final Walk with Wente – this time, Dr. Wente is being interviewed!

For the final episode of Walk with Wente, the tables are turned: MSNBC anchor Stephanie Ruhle (P’29) walks and talks with President Wente, who shares why she chose Wake Forest and her call to lead a university where she felt she could have an impact. ‘When I looked at Wake Forest and all of its potential, I could see where I could bring my background and experience, and we could do great things together.’”

Watch Walk with Wente.

For seniors/’26s: important graduation technology to-do list

Information Systems wants all graduating seniors to be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Graduation Checklist to ensure they retain access to materials they need from their time as a student.

Please note that student WFU accounts and Google Workspace access will be disabled 60 days after commencement (July 17). This means that the sites that use a Wake Forest username and password (e.g. ) to authenticate will not be accessible with this login information at that 60 day mark.

See the Graduation Checklist for full details.

Honors and Awards Ceremony Commencement weekend

One of my colleagues on the academic side of the house wanted me to be sure to tell P’26s and ’26s that they are encouraged to attend the Undergraduate Honors and Awards ceremony at Commencement on Sunday, May 17 from 2-4 p.m. in Brendle Hall, Scales Fine Arts Center.

The event recognizes the academic excellence of Wake Forest students. They are still working on the final list of students being recognized at that event, so you will want to check the website next week to see the program with names of all students being recognized in the ceremony.

Even if your Deac isn’t being recognized, they might know the students who are – and it is great to show up for them and support them as they are being honored.

Football game announced for Toronto

An email landed in my inbox this morning announcing a ‘Week Zero’ football game in Toronto:

“Wake Forest Football will open the 2027 season on an international stage in Toronto, taking on Syracuse at BMO Field in the first-ever college football game at the venue. The Week 0 matchup, with the Deacs as the home team, is set for Aug. 28 or 29 and will air on ABC or ESPN.” Read the full story.

For those of you who like to travel, this ought to be a fun weekend. I doubt they need the Daily Deac there to cover the action, but I would volunteer as tribute 🙂

Hats off to all our students still slogging away at final exams, papers, and projects. You got this, Deacs! Here’s your nearly-at-the-end meme to brighten your spirits:
