  • Reminder about checking junk/spam for our messages

I am out of the office today, so this is a pre-post (and a short one!)

EDITED TO ADD: there was a Wake Alert issued earlier today for a swatting incident. There was no threat to the campus community

Weekly message for new P’30 families

Every Tuesday during the summer, I send a message to all incoming first-year families (i.e., P’30s). I am trying hard to keep those messages short and tight, because new families have historically said they feel overwhelmed with all the information. You can read today’s message here.

Reminder about checking junk/spam for our messages

When we hit ‘Send’ on emails to families, we have every intention that our message gets to you as planned…but unfortunately we cannot control how those emails get interpreted by the recipients’ systems. Sometimes people’s Internet Service Providers get hitchy and interpret our messages as spam, and either they do not deliver the emails at all, or they route them straight to your spam/junk/quarantine.

So if you feel like you are not hearing from WFU and you have already logged into Wake Network to verify your email is correct, check your spam/junk/quarantine and/or do a search in your email for any @wfu.edu addresses. If you find our emails in the wrong place, please ‘mark as safe sender’ or ‘move to inbox’ (whatever your mail platform equivalent is).

It may also help to add the following emails to your contact list, as these are frequently used for mass emails to Wake Foresters: , , and .

Commencement tidbits

I was in a Commencement prep meeting yesterday and there are a few things that came out of it that I thought might be helpful for our P’26 families to know.

One of the prohibited items is signs on sticks, which includes Fatheads (i.e., big pictures of just your student’s face). Apparently some families have been asking if they can bring Fatheads, and the answer is no, those will not be allowed, so please do not bring them to campus.

As the date gets closer, please keep your eye on the weather forecast. If it is unsafe to hold Commencement on the Quad, we would move to the rain plan. In this case, “unsafe” means things like risk of high winds, lightning, etc. – not rain. If it is safe to hold it on the Quad, we would do that, even if it is in the rain. Graduates will receive ponchos under their chairs, but families will need to have their own rain gear (no umbrellas). So if you are the type that wants to have a rain hat just in case, start planning for that now.

And for our students with final exams, here’s your meme du jour:
