Today I am catching up on a variety of things that have crossed my desk since I was out on PTO.

Community Safety Advisory: Reports of Sexual Assaults on Campus

This morning, campus received a Community Safety Advisory, which was about reports of sexual assaults on campus. Here is the intro to the message:

“University Police received an anonymous report yesterday alleging a male student sexually assaulted three individuals in residence halls between Sept. 27 and Nov. 15. This report is currently under investigation, and University Police is seeking additional information.”

The message also outlines resources for students and personal safety and security precautions. If you have downloaded the WakeSafe app and enabled notifications, you should have also gotten this message; see instructions here.

I do not have any further information about this (I received the same message your students/you did).

RA applications open

Students received a message from Residence Life and Housing about RA (Resident Adviser applications being open). Being an RA comes with a few really important benefits, including: $5,700 stipend for the 10-month term; a single room at a discounted rate; real world work experience, plus professional development and other support.

If this is something that your Deac might be interested in, encourage them to learn more about the RA position and apply via the Housing Portal.

Tech the Halls – technology sale

Does your student need new technology? Are you looking for a special holiday gift for them? Send them to Tech the Halls this week! Tech the Halls runs Nov. 17–22 at the Taylor Bookstore, and I am told it features incredible savings on Mac® and iPad®, including the newest models up to 10% off.

Spring 2026 meal plan changes email

Students got an email last week about making changes to their meal plans. Here is an excerpt:

“Your current [Spring 2026] meal plan selection can be viewed in the Housing Portal. Click here to view a step-by-step guide if you would like to make changes.

Off-campus students are not required to have a meal plan, but may add or cancel a Spring 2026 plan if they would like. If you had a Fall 2025 meal plan, that plan has been duplicated for Spring 2026.

Please be mindful that if you do select or have an existing meal plan, you have until January 6, 2026, to decrease or cancel your Spring 2026 meal plan. January 31, 2026, is the last day to add or upgrade your Spring 2026 meal plan.

OPCD webinar recording for P’29s

The recording of the OPCD’s November 11th webinar is now live on the OPCD Parents web page. You can also see the webinars for senior families and sophomore/junior families on that same page.

Former Wake baseball star named AL Rookie of the Year

My spouse is a baseball guy, so this story was one we were especially happy to see:

“Former Wake Forest baseball All-American Nick Kurtz of the Athletics was named the 2025 American League Rookie of the Year, as announced by the Baseball Writers’ Association of America (BBWAA)….Kurtz becomes the first Rookie of the Year in Wake Forest baseball history.

He had arguably one of the greatest rookie seasons in MLB history and likely has a case for some down-ballot AL MVP votes with what he just pulled off. Debuting on April 23, just 283 days from the date he was drafted, Kurtz ended up leading all MLB rookies in home runs (36), RBIs (86), extra-base hits (64), runs (90), slugging percentage (.619) and OPS (1.002), becoming just the eighth rookie since 1901 to post an OPS over 1.000 (min. 400 plate appearances) and first since Aaron Judge in 2017.”
