Update from the Presidential Search Committee
This morning the campus community – as well as alumni, parents, and families – received this update from the Presidential Search Committee. Here is a snippet:
“We write today to offer a brief update on the search for Wake Forest’s 15th president. The appointment of a new leader affects the entire community, and we want to continue sharing as much as we can even as we respect the high level of confidentiality that must surround a search process such as this….
It is important to the search process that we hear from the whole Wake Forest community. The search firm uses this information to engage prospective candidates in the outreach and recruiting process. Because we will rely on this feedback to help shape key elements of the search process, we ask you to make the time to participate in the online survey. Responses to the survey are anonymous and go to the search firm. Thank you for participating and encouraging those you know to lend their insights about Wake Forest to our search.”
So if you have thoughts to share, please do take the online survey so that the search firm can be aware of your perspective.
TurkeyPalooza tackles increased demand this holiday
I always love sharing about TurkeyPalooza. This is one of our most Pro Humanitate events all fall:
“With community partners ramping up for an increased need for Thanksgiving meals this season, the Campus Kitchen at Wake Forest University kicks off its annual TurkeyPalooza on Sunday, Nov. 16.
The goal of this annual tradition: Prepare a Thanksgiving feast for those in need in Forsyth County—more than 600, at last count. Student volunteers will cook meals during shifts all week. Additional volunteers will deliver the meals Monday-Saturday to community partners including Samaritan Ministries, Hope to Thrive, Azalea Terrace, FaithHealth NC and DEAC Clinic.”
You can read the full TurkeyPalooza story here. Many thanks to all our students and campus partners who work on bringing a meal to those in need at Thanksgiving.
Branford Marsalis, Maya Angelou Artist-in-Residence
Wake Forest hosted a moderated conversation with jazz master Branford Marsalis this past Sunday in Brendle Recital Hall. We have a terrific new story about him; this is an excerpt:
“In a career spanning over 45 years, Branford Marsalis has become an iconic figure in the music world as a saxophonist, composer, and bandleader, yet he maintains a sense of humor about his work.
‘We’re always laughing before the concerts,’ he said. ‘We take the music very seriously, but we don’t take ourselves seriously.’
Marsalis visited Wake Forest’s campus to receive the Maya Angelou Artist in Residence Award. He attended several classes with students, where he answered questions and discussed the creative process, the importance of playing for an audience, and knowing the difference between playing a piece accurately and playing it from the heart.
‘One of my band directors in New Orleans when I was a kid – and I didn’t understand what he was saying – said, “well, son, that was correct, but it wasn’t right.” I said, “well, what does that mean?” and he said, “I can’t help you with that, you’ve got to figure it out.”’”
