  • Advisory: Helicopter landing on campus this Friday
  • Secrest Artists Series this Thursday: Raphaël Feuillâtre (guitar)
  • Fall Faculty & Guest Artist Concert

Yesterday around dinnertime it was 70 degrees and we had a soaking rain. This morning we woke up to frigid temps: our high today is 42, but it has been a bit breezy and feels like it is only 36. At least it is sunny (I try to always look on the bright side).

Today I have three quick notes about upcoming events. Here we go!

Advisory: Helicopter landing on campus this Friday

I wanted to share a heads up that Wake Forest Emergency Medical Services will be conducting a training event on campus this Friday Nov. 14, which will involve landing an AirCare helicopter from Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist on Davis Field between 5–7 p.m. This is part of National Collegiate EMS Week.

Students (rightfully) might be alarmed if they saw a random helicopter touching down on campus. We mentioned this to students this past Thursday in our WFU Should Know student e-newsletter, and we will share another reminder on Thursday, but I thought families might like to know this too.

Secrest Artists Series this Thursday: Raphaël Feuillâtre (guitar)

This just in from the Secrest Artists Series:

“Free Concert: Classical Guitarist Raphaël Feuillâtre: The Secrest Artists Series proudly presents classical guitarist Raphaël Feuillâtre in concert on Thursday, November 13 at 7:30 p.m. in Brendle Recital Hall.

Hailed as a global sensation, Feuillâtre is one of the world’s most listened-to classical music artists (ranked #2 on Apple Classical in 2023). He consistently fascinates audiences with his dazzling virtuosity, rich repertoire, and the depth of his interpretations.

His program, “Latin Passions,” will take you on an electrifying journey from Spain to Argentina, Italy to Brazil. Experience the thousand-and-one Latin faces of the guitar through popular rhythms, choreographic bounce, and sophisticated counterpoint. The program navigates masterpieces by Scarlatti, Villa-Lobos, and Piazzolla, alongside works by Albéniz, Tárrega, and Llobet, showcasing Feuillâtre’s fantastic expressivity and total mastery of the instrument.

Pre-Concert Talk: Join us for a Pre-Concert Talk at 6:40 p.m. in Room M208 (just off the Brendle Recital Hall lobby). Associate Teaching Professor of guitar, Marco Sartor, will explore the composers and music featured on the program.”

Students can reserve their free ticket through the online Box Office using their official WFU email address.

Fall Faculty & Guest Artist Concert

And since we were talking about the Secrest Artists Series in the item above, I wanted to share this one too:

“The Fall Faculty & Guest Artist Concert will feature modern, jazz, contemporary and classical ballet choreography by our dance faculty and renowned guest choreographers, under the direction of Nina Lucas Rice.  This fall, faculty choreographers include Chris Martin, Tina Yarborough Liggins, Christina Soriano, Nina Lucas Rice, Chelsea Hilding, Sam Shapiro, and Enrique Rosario and more than 40 WFU dancers.

Performances are November 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. and November 23 at 2:00 p.m. on the Tedford Stage. Tickets and information are available on the Department of Theatre and Dance webpage.”

Wishing you a great week (and hopefully warmer than we are!)
