Happy Homecoming weekend to all! It looks to be a picture perfect weekend: temps in the low to mid 60s, generally pretty sunny, and just a slight chance of rain on Sunday.

Next week, though, your Deacs are going to need warmer clothes and rain gear: Monday’s high is projected to be only 51 degrees and a 94% chance of rain. The rest of the week will range from highs of 52-59, with 20-67% chance of rain. Maybe Actual Fall is here?

Now to the topics of the day…

Information from Residence Life and Housing for families of students currently abroad this fall

Do you have a student abroad? Are they confused or concerned about their spring housing? Review these important updates from Residence Life and Housing that were sent to students today. This additional messaging was in response to students who needed additional information or clarification on the housing processes.

What Homecoming might be like for your Deacs after they graduate

Homecoming begins today and runs through the weekend. Whether you are a new P’29 family or a P’26 with a soon-to-be-graduating senior, I thought it might be fun to show you what your Deacs will experience at Homecoming once they graduate.

Homecoming is open to all class years every year, but we do special events for reunion classes starting at their 5th anniversary up through the 60th anniversary in increments of 5 years. So this year, 2025, we are celebrating classes that graduated in years ending in 5 and 0 (e.g., 2020, 2015, 2010, etc.).

There is a Reunion Party Village: 10th through 45th reunion parties take place in Reunion Party Village on Poteat Field. Each class has designated tent space, dinner buffet lines, and seating for classmates to gather. The village includes a large clear tent with a bar, DJ, and plenty of photo opportunities for all reunion classes to celebrate together. See pic below (click to enlarge).

The 5th year reunion party is on a big tent on Manchester Plaza (Mag Quad); click to enlarge.

Homecoming weekend typically starts Friday afternoon with Party So Dear on Mag Quad – which is open to all alumni, faculty, staff, and students. It features live music, a bar (for those over 21), and lots of fun; click to enlarge.

Saturday’s main events that young Deacs might like are the pregame tailgate, football game, and Festival on the Quad (a kind of carnival for all ages – this becomes a big deal when our alumni have young kids). You can see more at the Homecoming website.

Club ice hockey championship banner hoisting postponed

There has been a change to the Club ice hockey game during Homecoming weekend: they are not going to be hoisting the championship banner. Due to a high number of team members studying abroad this semester, the hoisting will be moved to the spring so the full team can join in the celebration.

The game will still be played as scheduled. See the Club Sports Calendar for all events.

Wishing you and yours a happy weekend, and to our alumni families who are back on campus, a Happy Homecoming!
