Midweek Musings
In this Issue:
- P’25s: Some preliminary info from the Commencement website
- Messages from the Office of Residence Life and Housing
- A deep cut from the ZSR
It’s the middle of the work week and Mother Nature is doing us a solid with the weather: today’s high is projected to be a marvelous 67 degrees, and we will have high temps in the 60s through Saturday. The forecast calls for a rainy Friday, but I would encourage all our Deacs to take advantage of this wonderful weather as much as possible in the coming week!
Here’s all the news that’s fit to print (wow am I dating myself!) today 🙂
P’25s: Some preliminary info from the Commencement website
P’25s, if you’ve looked at the Parent and Family Events section of parents.wfu.edu, you can see that we have a countdown timer for Commencement. It’s only 107 days to go!
Some of you have been messaging me about some of the particulars of Commencement. It’s a little early for all parts of the weekend to be finalized, but there is still some info on the Commencement website that may be good to think about now:
- Information about regalia is available online.
- Information about ticket registration will be sent to all eligible graduates in March 2025.
- I am told from my sources in the Commencement office that currently, we expect all graduates to be allocated up to 8 guest tickets with the option to request additional waitlist tickets. Full ticket details are available on the Commencement website.
Additional details will be shared on the Commencement website as they are finalized, so check back regularly.
Messages from the Office of Residence Life and Housing
The Office of Residence Life and Housing has sent resident students a couple of messages in the last few days: one is about fire and safety re: AEDs, and one is about theme and block housing for the 25-26 academic year.
A deep cut from the ZSR
One of the hidden gems of campus that I wish all students would visit is the Special Collections and Archives Research Room (or during my time, ‘Rare Books Room’). It’s located on the 6th floor of our amazing ZSR Library.
You cannot check books out of the Special Collections and Archives Research Room; instead, you request what you want and the library staff will get it for you. Some of the rare items are stored in an off site location, so students might want to check in the online catalog and be sure to request any offsite-stored items in advance so they will be delivered to the ZSR at a day/time that is convenient.
I visited Special Collections few years ago and there was a gorgeous (and very large) book that a naturalist had done with incredible paintings of flora and fauna. Given the fact that today is Lunar New Year and the start of the Year of the Snake, I am including some of the snake pictures from this rare book below.
Students can also join in the Lunar New Year Festival this Saturday; they can find details on The Link.
Gung Hay Fat Choy to all who will be celebrating Lunar New Year!
