Longtime readers know I like to talk about the weather in my intros, mostly to give you a sense of what your Deacs are seeing and feeling. I just took a peek at our 10 day forecast and the high temps all start with a 7 not an 8, which means we are going to have lovely cooler temperatures for the foreseeable future. We are also looking at a decent amount of rain.

Speaking of rain, Mr. Daily Deac is from Louisiana, so I am always attuned to hurricanes that hit that part of our country. My thoughts are with everyone who has been impacted by Francine; I hope you and yours are OK.

Now to a few news items for the day:

National Voter Registration Day – Sept. 17

There is an upcoming event next week that your Deacs should know about: National Voter Registration Day (Sept. 17 from 12-6 p.m. in the Tribble Courtyard):

“Join Deacs Decide this National Voter Registration Day to get ready for upcoming elections! Whether you need to register to vote, update your information, or just learn more about the process, we’ve got you. Stop by, bring a friend, and make sure you’re election-ready. Your voice matters—let’s make it count!”

First-time and seasoned voters all need a plan before casting their ballot. Deacs Decide and the Office of Civic and Community Engagement have created a comprehensive voting website with everything your Deacs need to know. A couple of nuances to be aware of from the website::

“For the 2024 General Election, voters will be asked to show photo ID when voting in North Carolina. Please note that your DeaconOne card is an acceptable form of ID for voting in North Carolina.”

“In North Carolina, it’s illegal to snap a picture of your completed ballot. We know you’re excited, for some of you it may be your first time voting in a presidential election, just snap a picture with your “I Voted” sticker instead of your ballot.”

Off Campus Newsletter

For those of you who have students who live off campus, the Office of Residence Life and Housing has sent their fall off-campus newsletter. It includes important reminders about trash and recycling; how to stay out of hot water while hosting events; safety reminders; and more. I would encourage all families with students off campus to read this enewsletter.

P’25s: your ’25 students must apply to graduate by Oct. 1

P’25 families – this is your year! Your students are going to graduate soon! And an early part of that preparing for Commencement process is that members of the Class of 2025 must apply to graduate.

An Application for Program Completion must be submitted through Workday by October 1 for May graduation. Your students should watch this video on how to apply.

The requirement to apply for graduation will go out in our WFU Should Know student e-newsletter around 4 p.m. this afternoon. But just in case your ’25s missed it, I wanted to ensure our P’25s see it.
