  • Summer projects on campus

It’s a beautiful day here, Deac families: high of 78 and sunny. I took this screen grab from the Quad Cam and you can see the grass just in front of Wait Chapel is looking a little sorry; this is where the Commencement stage had been. But fear not, our intrepid groundskeeping staff will have it looking beautiful again very soon.

Just two items today – one is an action item, the other is a fun fact. Let’s dig in!

Students need to grant Third Party access in Workday AND grant specific permissions

You may recall that we have moved to a new platform, Workday, that we first rolled out to students in April for registration. There are other Workday modules we are using, including financials. This allows families/parents to receive notifications of tuition bills and other payments due (strongly recommended that all students authorize a third-party payer; student instructions here – they may need to be logged in with their WFU address).

Students will also be using Workday to add an authorized payer (third party access) to grades or class schedules.

IMPORTANT NOTE: I am told that we have had some students add Authorized Payers/Third Party Access but they have not done the 2nd part of the process, which is granting access to specific functions, such as Make a Payment, receive Proactive Past Due Notifications, View Account Activity and View Account statements, View Grades.

To grant specific permissions via Workday, students will need to:

  • Type in the search “Manage Permissions for my Third Party”
  • Choose the permissions.
  • Click Ok.
  • Type a purpose of waiver for the permissions and confirm FERPA permissions

So if you want to be able to have access to financials, grades, etc., have a conversation with your Deac about making sure they add you as an Authorized Payer/Third Party Access AND that they grant you specific permissions for those functions.

There are many tools and jobaids on this page that students can access; families likely cannot access these because it looks like many of these are on a Google drive that must be accessed with WFU username and password.

Summer projects on campus

Today I am going to share a little higher ed inside baseball with you re summer projects. Summer is the time for colleges to do a lot of construction projects, maintenance, or repairs. It makes for easier work because many of the campus buildings are minimally occupied, there is not as much traffic, etc.

Normally that work begins – literally – right after Commencement. There were a number of large trees that were removed last week. They had advanced signs of decline and poor health, and created a safety risk due to their large branches; you can read about the tree removal here.

But there are a lot of other projects taking place this summer. Our Facilities team has a project map that you can take a look at to see what is happening. You can click on any of the individual icons and you can see a one-liner about what is taking place. Some of them are small projects – like painting – others are much larger scale, like putting in new flooring for The Pit (our main cafeteria) or resurfacing Kentner Stadium.

So much work gets done over the summer so that our Deacs can come back in August to refreshed, renewed spaces.
