You remember that old nursery rhyme?

Rain, rain go away
Come again some other day
Little [name] wants to play

That’s where we are feeling today. It is beautiful today – sunny and around 80 – but we have rain in the forecast for the next few days, though the forecast looks – knock on wood – pretty good for Monday. But rain in the near term means we have to be flexible and adaptive. In that spirit…

Celebration of the Class of 2024 (Sat. night) is moving indoors

Today, I have an update to share with P’24s regarding the Celebration of the Class of 2024. We had a meeting this morning to review our event plans against the weather forecast to see if we could still hold the party on Manchester Plaza Saturday night or if we needed to go to the rain plan.

With Manchester Plaza already being soggy from the rain we’ve had thus far, the 70% chance of rain Saturday during the day, and the 60% chance of rain Saturday night, we have elected to go to our rain plan, which is to hold the Celebration of the Class of 2024 in the Sutton Center, which is the leftmost part of the Wellbeing Center (see pic below or building 21A on this map).

An exterior view of historic Reynolds Gym and the Sutton Center, on the campus of Wake Forest University, Thursday, September 26, 2019.

While we would have preferred to hold this on Manchester Plaza, we did not want to risk having the event canceled in case of high winds or thunderstorms (thus disappointing our ‘24s and P’24s).

Also, a disclaimer: We had to make the call this morning in order to get all the supplies, vendors, room setup, etc. ready in time for Saturday night. And once you make the rain plan call, you can’t unmake it – so even if the forecast changes and it will be sunny on Saturday, we will still be in the Sutton Center because we won’t have enough time to relocate everything.

Please know we made the call we did because we want to ensure you have a party to go to! And it is going to be an awesome time! There will be snacks, drinks, music, dancing, uniquely Wake Forest photo and video opportunities, and more – plus a Senior Gift for your Deacs to pick up, a special toast at 9 p.m. to the class, and brief remarks.

If your family is planning to attend but hasn’t signed up, please make sure to register ASAP so you get our last-minute email with details on Friday afternoon.

Professor Maria Ogedengbe’s artwork on view in Venice

In case you have world travels coming up and Venice is on your itinerary, I wanted to share this news:

“Professor Maria Ogedengbe’s installation “our wife” is now on display at Casa Artom, Wake Forest University’s study abroad center in Venice, Italy. The 20-yard-long painting project is a musing on a women’s hand-printed batik head-scarf (gélé) from a Nigerian wedding “uniform” and relates to the theme of this year’s Venice Biennale: “Foreigners Everywhere.”

Students at Wake Forest University assisted with the project, which has received support through the dean’s office and Interdisciplinary Arts Center.

Casa Artom welcomes Wake Forest University community & friends in Venice to attend a reception with a short artist’s talk & refreshments on Wednesday, May 22 from 6-7.15 p.m. – please RSVP to Aurora Alessi: alessia@wfu.edu.”
