Student Demonstration and Call Center
Some of you messaged me last night about protests that were taking place on the Quad. I was at the Face to Face event (and my ‘27 was coming home last night) so I was focused on those things.
A message went out to the campus community today, and we shared this message with all current families (‘24-28). Here’s an excerpt from the parent and family message:
Around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, a group of approximately 20 students began demonstrating peacefully on Hearn Plaza in solidarity with pro-Palestine activists on campuses across the country. The demonstration transitioned to assembling tents on Hearn Plaza around 6:30 p.m…..Throughout the evening, our shared goal was to keep everyone safe and avoid disruption of our academic mission and planned campus activities. It was a priority to seek a peaceful outcome. Administrators and the organizers of the demonstration remained in dialogue throughout the evening, night and early morning, and reached an agreement shortly after 9 a.m. that led to students agreeing to take down the tents in the encampment….
Wake Forest has established a call center for students, faculty and staff: 336-758-7500. Please note that the call center does not have any information that has not been shared publicly but can help clarify important points and address your questions.
If you have sent an email to Wake Forest about this situation, please know those are being forwarded to campus leadership. As this is a time of high email volume, we cannot guarantee an individual response.
Neither I nor the call center have any additional info beyond what is in this message. If any other campuswide messages are sent, I would share them in the Daily Deac and in Family News.
New Students website launches
May 1st is the day when we officially welcome our incoming Class of 2028 and our P’28s (i.e., their parents/family members) into the Wake Forest community. We have launched newstudents.wfu.edu with updated information.
There is a LOT of info on this page, both for students and for families. Please begin digging into the content now, and pace yourself throughout the summer.
I will also be sending an email each Tuesday to all incoming P’28 parents/families with info you need for the week. Our first message LINK went out today. Note that the Daily Deac subscription you have is run out of a different program than our parent and family records system, so it is important you Verify Your Family Record in Wake Network to be sure we get you in our email distro list.
Face to Face with Trevor Noah photostory
Last night was Face to Face with Trevor Noah. He spoke to a packed – and very appreciative – crowd. While we are not able to have a recording of these events, we have the next best thing: a photostory. You can also subscribe to photostories here so they can come straight to your inbox.
Workday financials coming in July
This July, Wake Forest is moving student financials activities into Workday, including accounts, financial aid disbursements and more. The Office of Student Financial Services is preparing a video and on-demand job aids for third-party users, both will be shared in early summer. And as a reminder, if you haven’t already, you may receive an email from WFU Workday with the subject line Proxy Account Information saying an account has been set up for you in Workday. That’s because your student is giving you access to information, which may include the ability to see and pay bills. Note that you will continue to use Deac to pay any remaining spring or summer balances, but starting in July, you will only use Workday.
Senior Showcase
Every year, we invite a number of seniors to be featured in our Senior Showcase. You can read their profiles here. Very proud of the accomplishments of our amazing Class of 2024!
