Hit the Bricks!
In this Issue:
- Questions to ask your student
- Homecoming information
- How to build a successful second half of the semester workshop on October 25
- Face to Face with Daymond John on November 1
Today is Hit the Bricks, and I have a team I will be walking with, so this is a prepost. Remember to check out the Quad Cam and see if you can catch the last of the day’s action.
Questions to ask your student
As you know, I am a P’27 at NC State, and my counterpart who runs the State Parent and Family Services offices is an absolute dynamo, a terrific parent and family professional. One of the things I like best about their program is they produce a Conversation Calendar for families, where they suggest a few questions you want to ask your student in that particular month. The October questions are good ones and I wanted to share here (with all credit due to NC State):
- What are your plans for fall break?
- Have you had your flu shot?
- Have you talked to any of your friends from home?
- How are you feeling about your academics at this point in the semester?
- How are you taking care of yourself?
You may have other questions you want to ask – one that comes to mind is “how are you doing money-wise/budget-wise?” – but this is a good start if you are looking for ways to check in with your student.
Homecoming Information
Homecoming & Reunion Weekend 2023 will be held Friday-Sunday, Oct. 20-22. All faculty, staff and students are invited to kick off the weekend on Friday, October 20 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. on Manchester Plaza at Party So Dear with Sol Fusion. All are also welcome at the Festival on the Quad with food, music, face painters, games, and many other fun surprises. Both events are free. If you are an alumni family and haven’t registered yet, visit the Homecoming website.
How to build a successful second half of the semester workshop on October 25
Did your student get off to a rough start academically this semester? Not to fear… CLASS (Center for Learning, Access, and Student Success) is hosting a workshop titled “How to Build a Successful Second Half of the Semester” open to all students and part of OWLS (Outreach Workshop Learning Series) on Wednesday, October 25 at 6 p.m. in Benson 410, pizza included.
Face to Face with Daymond John on November 1
Face to Face Speaker Forum is excited to welcome Founder & CEO of FUBU, Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship, Star of ABC’s “Shark Tank” and CEO of The Shark Group, Daymond John on November 1 at 7:30 p.m. in Wait Chapel. Tickets for parents/families are available at facetoface.wfu.edu.
Students can attend the free student-led event in Wait Chapel, which I believe begins at 5 p.m. Students can also get tickets to the keynote, if the event has not sold out; details here.
