Finals Friday

Let the games begin! Finals have started, and from now until next Friday, our Deacs will be studying, writing, packing, taking tests, and trying to cram one last [insert activity here] before they head home (or graduate).

I was on the Quad this morning and was delighted to find the grass looking really great. Our landscaping team does incredible work to keep Wake looking as beautiful as it does, and we’ve had a lot of rain of late, which makes the grass grow fast. I love to walk barefoot on the Pre-Commencement grass, which always seems to be so lush and thick.

Wake the Library

Wake the Library is an exam week tradition. It gives students not only a place to study, but also free food and other surprises. Your Deacs can stop by ZSR Library for study supplies, snacks, and other freebies to help them de-stress during exams! Check out our Wake the Library page for more info.

Library Decorating Committee

One of the delightful surprises of Finals Week is walking into the ZSR Library and seeing what the supersecret Library Decorating Committee has done to the atrium.

This year’s theme is Mario Kart, and the ZSR has a Flickr page set up with some of the photos. Here’s a taste (click to enlarge): Dr. Shea is Toadette, and it looks like our alumni and NBA superstars Tim Duncan and Chris Paul feature prominently as Mario and Luigi (and if my eyes don’t deceive me, even I am in there! Please know I am hugely honored, Library Decorating Committee!) Enjoy the whole set of photos.

Start prepping your home TLC

I always encourage families to start thinking about what kind of TLC you can offer your students once they come home after finals. They will be tired, drained, stressed, happy to see you (and their pets), and most likely hungry for any of their favorite things you cook (or specialty foods they can’t get at school). My love language is food – so if there are things you can cook/prep/buy to surprise your Deac when they get back, they will be overjoyed at a little pampering.

Wishing all your Deacs luck with finals, and safe travels home when it’s their time to leave!
