- Community Safety Advisory this morning
- For those of you with younger students at home, today’s Daily Deac is just for you. Today we will share information about two Wake Pre-College Programs: the Summer Immersion Program and the College LAUNCH for Leadership Program
Community Safety Advisory this morning
This morning, a Community Safety Advisory was issued. “At 10:10 a.m., Winston-Salem Police received a report of a shooting at the Strickland Center on the main campus of Forsyth Tech Community College, about six miles from Wake Forest’s Reynolda campus and five miles from Wake Downtown. Wake Forest Police have been staffing the entrances to the Reynolda Campus out of an abundance of caution, and remain in close contact with WSPD (@cityofwspolice). University Police has increased security on campus and at Wake Downtown.” You can read the full message here.
An update message was sent at 12:02 p.m.: “Winston-Salem Police shared the following update: “We can confirm there is no active shooter on the campus of Forsyth Tech. There is still an active investigation on the Forsyth Tech campus. There are no other threats to any other schools in the area. Anyone with info about this event should call 911 or the WSPD non-emergency number: 336-773-7700.””
Because this event did not take place on or near our campus, but was 5-6 miles away from Wake Downtown and the Reynolda Campus, respectively, a message was not sent to families. You can see more about when we notify families of incidents on or near campus on the Family Communications Guidelines and Philosophy website.

College preparation program: College LAUNCH for rising juniors in the Charlotte and Winston-Salem areas
The Wake Forest College LAUNCH for Leadership program is a free nine-month college prep, social justice, and leadership development program for high school juniors in Winston-Salem, Charlotte, and the surrounding communities. The program primarily serves students who have been historically excluded from higher education. Scholars will learn what it takes to break down the doors to higher education, build lasting relationships with students in their community, develop a critical understanding of historic and ongoing social injustices within their communities, and further grow their leadership skills.
The College LAUNCH application is open for the upcoming school year. Please encourage rising high school juniors to apply at collegelaunch.wfu.edu/apply/.
Please share these awesome opportunities with high school students.
