March Madness

The ACC Tournament is serious business in the state of North Carolina. A friend of mine had posted on Facebook that the tradition of the tournament being shown on TVs at businesses and even K-12 schools is alive and well: their high schooler had called during the school day to say [loudly] “ARE YOU WATCHING THE WAKE GAME?!?!?”

Yesterday we won in spectacular fashion: guard Daivien Williamson ended things on a buzzer-beating three-pointer, giving our Deacs a 77-74 victory over Syracuse in the second round.

I am typing today’s blog at halftime of Wake’s match against Miami, following an INSANE (but sadly not counting) half court shot from our guard Cameron Hildreth.

Daring to write about basketball while Wake is mid-game in the ACC Tournament brings one of my favorite Office moments to mind:

I'm not superstitious, but I'm a little stitious

Win or lose, I am always, always proud of our team, and proud to be a Deac!

[Edited to add: we lost, but we gave Miami a real scare and a run for their money. Very proud of our team!]

Housing webinar recording for P’23s-26s

Last night we hosted a webinar about the housing selection process for current families (i.e., P’23s-26s). If you were not able to attend, you can view the recording here.

This might be especially helpful viewing for P’26s, the families of rising sophomores, whose students have not gone through room selection before. The advice I gave on the webinar is that students in roommate groups need to have honest conversations about their wishes, what would happen if a roommate group of their size isn’t available at selection time, etc. and come to some agreements about how the group will manage changes to the group. Having a Plan A, B, C, and D is helpful.

For our P’27s who are already reading the Daily Deac: your ’27 students will get more information about housing closer to the summer. We are working on updating our New Students website even as we speak; it should go live around May 1st.

Storage Scholars information

Yesterday, resident students were sent this message about Storage Scholars. Here’s a snippet from the message for any families not familiar with this service:

“For those of you planning your move-out this year, Wake Forest University is pleased to introduce our storage, moving & shipping partners, Storage Scholars. Storage Scholars offers an all-inclusive moving & storage service for those who don’t wish to move out and store belongings themselves. Watch their “how it works video” to see if Storage Scholars is a good fit for you.”

Storage Scholars is the preferred moving, storage, and shipping partner of Wake Forest University that was founded and continues to be run by Wake students since 2017! They even appeared on Shark Tank and got funded by Mark Cuban – pretty cool!

If your Deacs had left campus for the break, they will soon be making their way back. We wish them all safe travels!
