Today is a happy day once again, Deac families. Students’ moods seem to be at an all time high, and I attribute that to a couple of things: today it is going to be 69 degrees, and having warm sunny weather seems to lift the collective mood. We’ve also had a string of really terrific sunsets and sunrises, as well as a recent full moon. Your Deacs maybe have texted you some pictures of how pretty the sunsets have been, or maybe you’ve seen it on their Instagrams. It’s just been a stunning couple of days and nights. And for our sports fan Deacs, last night we had a wonderful win over UNC. Hard to be unhappy when everything’s coming up Wake Forest right now 🙂
Wake beats UNC 92-85; a Quad rolling ensues
Last night our men’s basketball team took on perennial rivals UNC in the Joel. It was a tremendous performance – with Wake having a double digit lead over the Tarheels for much of the game. You can never take UNC for granted, though, and the last few minutes our lead had chipped away. Still, following a terrific performance by our guys, we won 92-85. You can read all the glorious details here.
Beating the Tarheels is always a thing of beauty and a joy forever. And our campus responded in kind, giving the Quad a rollicking good rolling, which you can see in the pics below (click to enlarge), compliments of the Wake Forest University official Facebook account. (Give it a follow if you haven’t already done so – great content on the official University page!)
Black Owned Business Market (and free food! Thursday 2/9
I found out yesterday that the School of Business and Intercultural Center are hosting a Black-Owned Business Market tomorrow (Thursday, Feb 9), from 4-6 p.m. in the Farrell Hall Founders Living Room. I am told “several vendors will share free food, drinks, and tasty desserts! We will have Lei Lei’s Bakery, Bingo Bango Soda Co., Kaveman Dogs, Lizzie’s All Natural Products, Kyla Eliza Fine Arts & Design, Jean’s Clothing, and others present. You’ll also be able to purchase goods and learn more about services from others. This event will be hosted in honor of Black History Month to help expose our Wake community to black-owned businesses in our local Winston-Salem community.”
Students love to study in Farrell, so I hope your Deacs might check it out tomorrow afternoon and grab some delicious goodies in the process.
WFU in the News (Jan. 30-Feb. 5)
For those of you who want to see where Wake Forest people are appearing in the media, we have WFU in the News, Jan. 30-Feb. 5 edition). Lots of interesting stories abound. How many of our Daily Deac-ers even knew there was a Winston Cup Museum downtown? (Gold star to you if you knew!)
Hope your Deacs drag a chair or a blanket out to the Quad to do their studying or homework there. Today is too beautiful not to be outdoors!
