Tuesday Newsday

- P’26s: Letters So Dear for your students
The good news: our streak of nice weather continues! Today is sunny and will get up to the low 60s. The bad news: there is a nearly 30 degree difference between what the temperature is first thing in the morning and at its hottest part of the day, which means a great conundrum in what to wear. Is it too cold for shorts if I have a 9 am class? Likely yes. Will I be roasting at 1 pm if I have on jeans and a jacket? Possibly. If your Deacs haven’t learned the secret of spring in North Carolina, it’s layer, layer, layer. That way you can always add or subtract clothes as needed.
The other bad news is that as we get closer and closer to spring, we get closer and closer to The Pollening, as shown in one of my favorite NC memes. If your Deacs have seasonal allergies, remind them that they want to pick up some Zyrtec or whatever their antihistamine of choice is before the pollen comes out in force in the coming weeks.
Today I am sharing some items that were sent to me by student groups or offices on campus. Take what you need, scroll through the rest 🙂
TEDxWakeForestU is coming (Feb. 25)
One of the student leaders of TEDxWakeForestU sent me the following to share with families. If you are within driving distance, or have plans to be in Winston-Salem, do join us for TEDx – it’s always a great day of speakers.
“TEDxWakeForestU is an event that showcases 8 different speakers coming from diverse professional backgrounds and life experiences worth sharing. Each has been carefully chosen to cater to the interests of Wake Forest students and the surrounding Winston-Salem community. Some of our speakers include an astronaut, a crime survivor, a man who was wrongfully convicted and put on death row, doctors from Switzerland and London, local artists, and environmental activists. This year our theme is “Covering All Angles,” where there’s something for everyone to enjoy! This free event will be hosted on Saturday, February 25th, in Wait Chapel!
Click on the link to learn more about our speakers and claim your free ticket: http://tedxwakeforestu.squarespace.com/ We hope to see you all there! “
Earth Talks call for proposals
Do you have a Deac who is passionate about the environment, sustainability, and the earth? There is a terrific opportunity coming up to participate in Earth Talks:
“Are you passionate about sustainability? Do you have a story to tell? Do you want to share your knowledge or opinions with your fellow Deacs? Then submit a proposal to present during Earth Talks!
Earth Talks is a series of short, student-led presentations that are focused on sustainability topics. Each talk will be led by a Wake Forest student or group of students who are eager to share their knowledge, passions, opinions, and/or research with others in the WFU community. Most importantly, you don’t need to be an expert to present; everyone is welcome to be part of this sharing community!”

P’26s: Letters So Dear for your students
Each week, our first-year students receive a Letters So Dear message with wisdom from an upperclass student, as well as campus news and notes. You can read it here.
That’s all I’ve got for you on this fine Tuesday. Thanks as always for reading the Daily Deac!
