We just concluded one of the happiest summer occasions on our campus: Freedom School, a free six-week literacy-based summer program aimed at strengthening children’s reading skills and closing achievement gaps. Students from Wake Forest (as well as other universities) serve as teachers. There is a terrific video about Freedom Schoolthat I hope you will enjoy. It’s wonderful to have young people on campus – particularly when we are eagerly awaiting the return of our full cohort of students.
In other event news, Wake Forest is very excited to once again be hosting the Winston-Salem Open August 20-27 at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex. This is the final tournament in the nine-tournament series leading up to the US Open. For families who love tennis, this promises to be a terrific event and has a stellar player lineup. Visit their websitefor more info or to purchase tickets.
And a couple of tidbits for P’26 and transfer families:
Incoming students who are still not compliant with our immunization requirements received this message this afternoon. Even if they think they turned in their HIIF form, students who received this message got it because Wake Forest does not have a record of their HIIF form on file. They must take action per that email.
We have received questions from families who were having difficulty accessing our Orientation app in Guidebook (some were being asked for a passphrase, and one is not required). I have been told that you shouldn’t be trying to download “Guidebook.” Instead, download the app. Go to your Apple or Google Play store and search “WFU Orientation Programs” to access the New Deac Welcome Week 2022 guide. You can also use your phone’s camera and this QR code (when you aim the camera at this QR code, you should see a link to the guide; click on that).
We also have had some questions from incoming families asking if staff can provide exact measurements/dimensions of their student’s room (or the furniture within it), or if others could perform those tasks. Regrettably, we cannot do those things, given the size and scope of the incoming student body (and the many tasks we are managing in preparing for their arrival). Thank you for your understanding.
Finally, new students received this message today about Orientation activities. You can see the archive of new student emails here.
