Registration Updates
For P’26s whose students were registering for classes yesterday, the Office of Academic Advising had a few registration updates to share:
- Please remind your student to complete and submit the Guided Preregistration Survey (GPS) they received on 5/27 by 11:59 P.M. EDT on Wednesday, July 13th.
- If your student is trying to register for Fall 2022 courses that are currently closed, please have them communicate with The Office of Academic Advising via email. We are sharing the courses that students want with the University Registrar. The University Registrar will then be meeting with other course-planning colleagues in the coming weeks to determine whether more seats / sections may be added.
- The Office of Academic Advising is also actively working with the Office of the Dean of the College on solutions for both WRI 111 and FYS 100.
Anecdotally, I always tell students to keep checking the Registration Portal, because people do drop and add classes. And students would be wise to follow the OAAs social media: Instagram, Facebook, and/or Twitter.
I also wanted to share a few tips about websites that might be helpful to know about (if you do not already):
Academic Services calendar of the Registrar’s website. The Academic Services calendar contains important dates for things like breaks, general dates for final exams, etc. You can also find the final exam schedule on this same site.
Important note: while we try not to change those dates, there are times when dates can be changed (witness the fact that we had to adjust the schedule after the fertilizer fire this spring). So please do not print out the page and keep it on your refrigerator. Instead, always access the website, as it will link to the most up-to-date information.
Dining website – this one is more for your students than for families. What I like most about this page is the What’s Open Now option midpage, and the ability to click on menus and hours and enter a particular time of day to see what is open then. Much better to look online to see if a particular venue is open than venture out if it’s cold or rainy to find it is closed.
Residence Life and Housing website – again, this site is more for your students. The feature that might particularly help your students is the Submit a Work Order button, in case there are any facilities issues they need to report.
As always, we encourage your students to be the ones to do the work, whether that is locating dining options, filling out work orders, etc. It is important for them to get comfortable navigating our websites, making connections with campus offices, and so forth.
