A well-placed source took a picture this morning of the Davis Field Road construction, and then again at lunchtime. It was an advantageous view, where you could see inside the construction fencing to how the road will run right up in alignment with the Quad arch.
My prediction is that this is going to be really beautiful once construction is finished. And for the old-timers among us, this is the way the road was when we were students, so there is a certain degree of sentimentality that this is a return to the way things were, and an acknowledgement that the architectural symmetry of the campus will once again be reflected here.
For those who have Deacs on campus for summer school, the Reynolda Campus (i.e., main campus) experienced a power outage yesterday. Happily, it was resolved by late afternoon.
Because it’s a new week, we have another edition of the Weekly Update for Incoming WFU families. Several important topics covered today, including the fact that advising phone calls open for incoming students this week, and we have opened RSVPs for our two Virtual New Student Receptions, as well as many in-person receptions. Read the full weekly update here.
I got a very good question today about incoming transfer students. We di have a special section of the New Students website that pertains specifically to transfer students, so if you have a transfer Deac, be sure they are aware of this page.
Because today is the anniversary of D-Day, our Wake Forest Magazine did a Facebook post about the faculty who served in WWII. For our alumni families within the Daily Deacdom, you might see some names that you recognize. I would at minimum commend to you the photo of a very young and very dapper Ed Wilson (’43), known by generations of alumni as “Mr. Wake Forest.” Many thanks to all Wake Forest faculty, staff, and alumni who served.
