We are waiting to see what winter weather might come to us this weekend. A general message went out to the whole campus, and Residence Life and Housing sent a message to resident students about keeping their windows closed and other safety tips. My Weather Channel app suggests we might get 1-2″ of snow, starting around 6 pm tonight and running until 6 am. And there are a lot of Northeast Wake Forest families who live in the path of the worst part of this storm – the bomb cyclone. Know we are sending our warmest wishes that everyone fares well in this storm. Be safe, y’all.

In other news…a police advisory was sent to campus last night about a report of a gun. Police canvassed the area and did not find any evidence of anyone with a gun; no threat to campus was identified.

The major/minor declaration process for sophomores is scheduled for next week — Monday, Jan. 31 through Friday, Feb. 4. During this time, students (other than those who have been accepted into the School of Business) who do not have a declared major and who have completed at least 40 hours should request a major via the “Add/Drop Major/Minor/Concentration” link in WIN. Students may also request minors and/or concentrations although they are not required to do so.

I want to make sure all families are aware of our new mental health resource for our students: the University Counseling Center (UCC) has partnered with TimelyCare, a student-focused telehealth company, to expand mental health support for our students. Support through our UCC providers is still available; this partnership is just a way to enhance access and capacity to better meet the needs of our campus. TimelyCare services, which included 24/7 TalkNow, Scheduled Counseling, Health Coaching, and Wellbeing Sessions, are free (with no insurance filing required), confidential, and available now for Reynolda campus undergraduate and graduate students. Encourage your student to activate their account (with their WFU login) and learn more at timelycare.com/wakeforest.

Students received their WFU Should Know e-newsletter yesterday, as they do every Thursday afternoon. As a reminder, the archive is here.

For our many families in China, the Lunar New Year is coming up on Tuesday.  The Chaplain’s office shared some information about Lunar New Year:

“One of the most important festivals celebrated in Asian cultures. In the West, Lunar New Year is often referred to as Chinese New Year. During this 15-day festival, family and friends travel across the nation to reunite over great food such as dumplings. People decorate houses with red lanterns, Spring couplets, and paper-cut outs. Young people love setting off firecrackers and receiving cash in paper (or electronic nowadays) red envelopes.”

In the spirit of Lunar New Year, Student Union’s film Friday Film Series this weekend is Shang-Chi & The Legend of The Ten Rings. Our A.S.I.A. student organization will be holding their Lunar New Year celebration on February 12th; see details on the Corq app.

Wishing you all a great weekend!
