Happy Tuesday, Deac families! It may be intermittently gray and rainy this week, but we are still riding that post-Hit the Bricks/Family Weekend/undefeated football team high! There is a terrific Hit the Bricks photostory you might enjoy.

And speaking of Family Weekend, some of you have asked me “When is Family Weekend 2022?” We don’t know yet – and won’t for a while. The date will likely be announced in late January-early February 2022, once our football schedule is known; Family Weekend traditionally falls on the same weekend as a home game.

In case you missed it at Family Weekend, Undergraduate Research Day took place, with 135 students representing 24 academic departments. This event provides an opportunity for students who have been doing research with their faculty members to showcase their results. It’s great practice for those who are thinking about grad school, and I want to point out just how unusual it is for undergraduates to be doing research with faculty members. Normally at many universities, you only get to jump on that bandwagon if you are a graduate student. So for any Deacs who want to get involved in research, they can talk to their faculty members to see if there are ways they can help.

On Monday, first year students got their weekly issue of Letters So Dear, and our Weekly Message for First-Year Families was published; this week is about grade expectations. I also want to draw your attention to the fact that our first-year students all have Faculty Fellows assigned to their buildings. These are incredible faculty members who can help students connect with a professor outside of class in creative and casual ways. If your ’25 has not gone to one of their Faculty Fellows’ programs or events, urge them to give it a try.

This past Saturday, sophomores received a Sophomore Week wrap up message with all the previous tips they’d received about majors and minors.

We also have a new issue of Wake Forest in the News ready for you.

Fall Break is this Thursday and Friday, which means your Deacs will get a little respite after their hard work on midterms, regular tests, and papers due this week. If your Deac is staying on campus for Fall Break, they will want to make note of resources on campus, as well as Student Health Services resources. should they need them.
