As we come to the end of the week, sharing several news items of note about the following: our new African American Studies program, a Residence Life and Housing update, the Office of Wellbeing e-newsletter, a Community Safety Advisory that went out in the wee hours of the morning, Wake the Demons and football game tonight, and the reminder about the Friday phone call. (Also trying some bolded keywords so you can more easily find what most interests you.)

Our new African American Studies program is underway! Corey D. B. Walker, Wake Forest Professor of the Humanities, is the inaugural director of the program and is teaching its first course, Introduction to African American Studies. We now offer a major and minor in African American Studies, and a graduate certificate is planned. Majors will develop original research projects, and a capstone experience for seniors will bring together students, scholars and community activists to synthesize and create new knowledge.

Residence Life and Housing shared its start of semester information about mold and mildew prevention.

The Office of Wellbeing  e-newsletter has lots of info in it about activities and support offerings like free wellbeing coaching. Urge your Deacs to take advantage of those!

A Community Safety Advisory went out early this am. It involved a firearm discharge at a bar downtown (not near campus). Additional information would have been shared if the situation affected the safety of the Wake Forest community.

Last night was our Wake the Demons spirit event on the Quad, and there are some great pictures here of the festivities, courtesy of the official Wake Forest University Instagram account, which is a great one to follow if you aren’t already. Tonight is our first home football game against Old Dominion starting at 7 pm. GO DEACS!

A Friday afternoon phone call can have a lot of benefit for your Deacs 🙂

Have a great weekend, all!
