Happy Tuesday, Deac families. Want to start right off the bat with a question I got from some families right after yesterday’s COVID guidance went out to everyone. Some asked what “visitors to campus” meant when we said all visitors must mask. Here is a clarification:

All campus visitors (which would include parents and families) must wear a mask indoors when on campus and in all other University properties, regardless of vaccination status.

Faculty, staff and students who have not been approved to be unmasked must wear a mask indoors when on campus and in all other University properties, except when in a residence hall room or alone in a private office.

Masks are optional for vaccinated faculty, staff, and students.

So know that yes, parents and family members will be allowed to enter residence halls to help their students move in; masks are required (regardless of your vaccination status).

We also had a few questions about unvaccinated students as well. We had previously announced on July 14 what unvaccinated students must do this academic year:

Students who receive an exemption from vaccination will be required to wear face coverings at all times when indoors except in your residence hall room.

Students who receive an exemption must submit to regular asymptomatic testing.

Students who are not fully vaccinated, including those who receive an exemption, will be required to quarantine per University policy if exposed to a COVID-positive person.

Hope that is some helpful clarification. As always, if you have questions, you can reply to this message (it goes automatically to parents@wfu.edu), or you can ask questions in our COVID form.

Our P’25s were sent this message about Move-In and Orientation activities for families. It’s got lots of details that we hope are helpful.

We are just about two weeks until new student move-in begins. To the degree that you can cook your Deac’s favorite meals/desserts while they are still home, indulge in that special local food product they love, etc., it is a great time to do so. Having lots of TLC in the week or two before school can be a great thing 🙂
