As we close out the week, there is a new campus health update on the dashboard (all good news!). Also, your students got their issue of Your Corona Chronicles last night. Today I want to make you aware of some opportunities for you and your Deacs:

The Office of Family Engagement is continuing its series of webinars with the OPCD (Office of Personal and Career Development). P’23s received a message Wednesday: “Please make plans to join us on Monday, October 19 to learn more about the current job market and how to support your sophomore. To reserve your spot, register HERE by Sunday, October 18 at Noon EDT. The Zoom webinar link will be shared on the 18th with those registered for the session.” You can see more about the other events in the series here.

We’ve been talking a lot about voting, because it is so important for our students to be engaged citizens. As such, the Office of Residence Life and Housing teamed up with Deacs Decide to send a message to all undergraduate resident students; read it here.

October is Queer History Month and there are a ton of events that students can take advantage of if they wish.

Also wanted to share information about an event for the School of Business:

The School of Business will be hosting Inclusion Weekend later this month. Underrepresented juniors and seniors are invited to learn more about careers in business and specifically how the Wake Forest MS in Management, Accountancy, and Business Analytics programs can prepare them to become leaders in a wide range of professions. Although Inclusion Weekend will be virtual this year, we are providing students an opportunity to participate in a case competition, and networking opportunities and sessions with URG faculty, staff, and alumni. Students who attend the weekend garner a minimum $15,000 scholarship if they enroll in one of the programs.

We would love to see more fantastic Wake students consider any of our programs for the next step in their education and toward promising careers. Inclusion Weekend can give interested students a glimpse of what a graduate business degree is all about. Interested students can watch a or visit the application website.

My colleagues in Residence Life and Housing wanted to make you aware that RA (Resident Adviser) applications are available. The application will be open until Thursday, December 10 at 11:59 PM.  Interested students can go to their Housing Portal or go.wfu.edu/housingportal and apply there. There is also a video featuring some passionate and inspired RAs who shared a little bit about their experiences with the role. Residence Life & Housing also sent a policy reminder to resident students.

I am hearing from Campus Dining that some students have not been using their Old Gold swipes this semester and are running low on food dollars. To ensure that they are getting their money’s worth out of their meal plan, we are running an Old Gold education campaign. You can click this graphic to learn more.Old Gold meal education

Finally, I wanted to share sharing some great news out of the Engineering program:

If crisis is the mother of invention, the need for socially conscious engineers whose work is guided by strong ethical values and practices has never been more evident than in the fight against COVID-19. Engineers have demonstrated virtues such as creativity, perseverance and service while developing practical solutions such as hand sanitizer produced by distilleries, masking efforts led by apparel companies and personal protective equipment distributed by vending machines.

Prior to the urgent challenges presented by the pandemic, Wake Forest University faculty have been elevating the importance of virtue and character in its undergraduate engineering program, with the support of the Kern Family Foundation and the Kern Entrepreneurial Engineering Network (KEEN)….[a] new two-year grant brings together faculty in the Department of Engineering and Program for Leadership and Character to teach a new generation of engineers who lead with virtue and create value for the clients and communities they serve.

This is a fantastic example of interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation. You can read the full story here.

As always on Fridays, call your Deacs. You know why. Stay safe and well, Daily Deacdom!
