In this Issue: Update on the snow situation

Technically we are closed today, but I know families might be wanting to hear a report on the weather, so here goes.

Our campus got word around 6 a.m. that due to potentially hazardous travel conditions, Wake would be closed and all classes were canceled. See full details at Wake Alert. And then we went several hours with not a snowflake in sight 🙂

But late morning/lunchtime(ish), it started to snow, and has been coming down pretty steadily (it’s about 1:30 as I write this). By the time the Daily Deac goes out around 5, you can see if it is still snowing by taking a look at the Quad Cam.

Encourage your Deacs to stay off the roads and make smart choices as long as we have snow on the ground. While snow removal on campus is excellent (hats off to our Facilities essential crew who are here to salt and plow and shovel!) the roads off of campus and in town are another story. North Carolina does not have the same amount of snow-clearing equipment as other states who get snow regularly, so the quality of local road plowing is not what some of our students are used to (neighborhoods typically don’t get plowed at all; they plow main roads but the side roads can be iffy).

I hope all our Deacs enjoy the day off!
