It’s the end of the week, and I am glad. I suspect your Deacs are glad too 🙂 The cold has been brutal and as I said yesterday, I think it has worn on a lot of us.
But there is good news! While today still feels pretty darn cold tome, the 5-day forecast shows a definite improvement in temperatures – which I suspect will help enhance everyone’s mood:
I. Am. Here. For. This. Warmth.
Wishing you all a great weekend, Deac families. Here’s what I have for you today.
Wake Alert Update: suspect arrested
Late last night, there was an update to the Community Safety Advisory that had been issued in the afternoon: “University Police arrested the subject of the community safety advisory sent earlier today. He also has been banned from all Wake Forest property. The man is not affiliated with the University.” You can read the full message at Wake Alert.
I have also heard from some of you that although you have attempted to enable notifications, you are not getting pinged when there is an alert, or as soon as you enable alerts in the WakeSafe app, it switches right back to disabled. I have shared that feedback with the folks who work most closely with the app, and will let you know if there are updated procedures, etc. once I hear back from them. FWIW, I deleted the app from my phone and reinstalled it, and it does not seem to be shutting off my notification settings within WakeSafe, so that might be something to try.
Spring Involvement Fair
If you are following our advice and trying to call your students on Friday afternoons, one of the things you might want to mention is the Spring Involvement Fair, which is taking place next Wednesday. This is a wonderful way for your students to connect to clubs and other organizations where they can find connection and camaraderie with their classmates.
Every spring, there is a certain amount of expected turbulence in friend groups as people have different schedules, new social obligations, etc. – so the Spring Involvement Fair can be incredibly helpful for students to find groups with which they can meaningfully engage.
Health reminders
I am hoping that we are (or will soon be) turning the corner on illnesses some of our students have right now. Please urge your students to follow good health practices: avoid contact with those who are ill, wash your hands thoroughly, and use hand sanitizer when needed.
While I certainly hope they are not sick, if your Deac is ill with the respiratory crud/flu, there are resources available on the DeaconHealth website. There is also an on-call nurse is available 24/7 to assist students with current healthcare concerns during non-clinic hours. Students should call 336.758.5218 and follow the prompts. There is also a list of off campus urgent care providers should they need them.
Wishing you (and your Deacs) a restful and good weekend and we’ll be ready to get back at it again on Monday!
